Adams holds all the cards.

Eichel can sit for 5 years how about that?

- sabresfan69

Sit for 5 years and collect 50 million dollars and eventually walks away for nothing?

That would be a very Sabres move

Eichel can go to arbitration if he wants to so he can have the surgery.

Why doesn't he? Either he knows he will lose or he doesn't really want the surgery.

The CBA allows him to use an independent arbitrator to decide if he should have surgery but he has not even bothered.

It’s moot til something gives. Nothing but smoke & a negotiation ploy for a trade out.

Agreed. Adams trying to build his rep on this deal. Worried about himself. Right to ask high but he painted himself in the corner. Probably has pegula all over this one. Misread the market. Make the deal move on. Lots of great pieces to rebuild a la Ottawa.

If Eichel has any love for the game of hockey that won't happen...best possible out come is if the Sabres don't get a good offer in return he comes and plays his arse off, shows he is ok and gets traded at the TDL or next summer.

Eichel and his agents painted themselves in a corner by going public, Adams is showing he will just dig in deeper. Reinhart said he was tired of losing and that was it, he got out with no problem.

Eichel has great talent but you don't see any player coming to his side, not even his buddy Reinhart who has nothing to lose in backing Eichel. JS Dea said great talent but not a good leader.

Do I hold it against Eichel for wanting out, not a bit...totally understand it but he is a spoiled punk who if he wants to be thought of with the likes of Mcdavid he should learn to go about it with class which he hasn't.

Jersey Is rebuilding and by the looks of the current roster It appears to be going quite well, Why would they need an albatross like Tarasenko?
- Shady1962

If you’re referring to the contract, that’s not a concern for the Devils. They have the space and it would expire right when they’ll need to start spending more.
If you’re referring to the player… it’s just an intriguing option to have. Players of his (previous) skill don’t become available too often. I would hope the Devils aren’t planning to give up anything of real value, but a gamble on someone who could potentially become a scoring force would be worth a small risk.

Eichel and Tarasenko are the same: both injured or with lingering physical issues, both disgruntled for that reason, and both able to pot 40 when healthy. Given that 91 has a Cup and Eichel is a wart on the butt of a terrible franchise, not sure why he's the "fallback" option at all.

I suspect it’s related to the fact that Eichel is five years younger (and it’s a big five years. he’s barely entered his prime), with a higher ceiling, at a more valued position, with fewer unsuccessful surgeries for the problem he’s currently facing, under contract for more years.

Buffalo has 5 years to get what the feel is fair in trade value. They hold all the cards. It’s all speculative but it appears as though every trade offer has been low ball attempts to fleece Adams. Soo it’s not like other GMs are even serious ATM about getting something done.

5 years?

So, Jack will just play disgruntled hockey while the Sabres pay him 10 million per year and as more questions arise about Jack, his trade value will go down

That's your winning strategy?

Hold the cards how?

Disgruntled Jack shows up, plays disinterested hockey, Goes on injured reserve on and off and continues to collect his 10 million/year paycheck while his trade value continues to drop?

Oh ya, Adams clearly holding pocket rockets

- TheGame316

Jack wants to be in a winning situation, going on and off of IR is not what he wants ultimately. He wants to play for a winner, but of course he was hurt, just to what point.

Well, if Jack is a total puss he would. Otherwise he would go out there and light the world on fire so a trade (acceptable to Adams) would get done as soon as possible.

His salary helps the sabres get to the cap floor. Soo the 10mil a year is a moot point. Soo is a NMC. He would want to be anywhere but here.

The scenario is either take a low ball now or wait. Seems like a no brainer to me. What do you think?

Because he is older, has a history of injuries, has less term on his contract and is a one-trick pony. He also has a full no trade clause as opposed to a NMC.

I'm not even defending Eichel here. I have never liked him. But let's be real, he is worth way more than Tarasenko.

Adams seems to be under enormous pressure to get a big haul for Eichel. It looks like he undercut himself by getting an unimpressive return for Rinehart.

Reports earlier were that he wanted the equivalent of 4-5 #1’s for Jack. Eichel is significantly better than Rinehart when healthy. But he’s not and no one knows if he’ll make a recovery. So with the uncertainty that should drive the price down. Adams set a low bar for Rinehart so GM’s may think they can wait him out and get Jack for less.

Reinhart had 1 year left till he was a UFA. I’m disappointed he’s gone bcz he is a solid hockey player but he GMKA did decently considering that Sam was gone next year.

Jacks under contract for 5 years and is a much better player. The rumor is Buffalo has only received low ball offers soo it’s really not worth arguing over.

One possible reason Eichel may want out of Buffalo is to get away from Gark. Gark once posted pictures of Eichel's new house and I suspect always bugs him after practices.

Jack Eichel?

More like Jacked Eichel!

Would you look at the pipes on that guy!

Eichel has committed himself to pumping iron this summer in preparation of the World Cup of Hockey and his sophomore season in Buffalo.

Seeing is believing.

On Sunday afternoon, Eichel and his buds took to the high seas off Cape Cod for some big game fishing. They bagged some impressive stripers.

Notice the increases in muscle in Eichel's biceps, triceps, pecs, lats, traps and core.

Eichel clearly has done the work in the gym.

I love the jorts, Jack! Gonna get me three pairs.

Jack better get a permit to bring those guns back to Buffalo.

All athletes should take notice, teams, owners, management aren't willing to be held hostage by players any more. The perfect example you ask? Aaron Franking Rodgers!!! Look who had to put his tail between his legs and show up in Green Bay this past week. The only way players will get what they want is to shut up and play. And play hard, prove their worth, make it so the contract will be worth it, or the trade offers will be unbelievable!! Enough of these big babies thinking the world is theirs!!!

No one holds all the cards in the Eichel situation.

The timing and value of that trade is constrained by Adams' trading partners. Getting top value is dependent on how Eichel and his team handle the situation. And if Adams waits long enough, the NMC kicks in and then he loses (slightly) more control and return value.

Eichel is under contract for 5 more years and at the mercy of team doctors and a GM who's determined to maximize the return. Even if the NMC kicks in before he's traded, the result of not waiving it is to remain a Sabre. That's probably his worst case scenario so it doesn't give him much leverage.

Both sides of done a fine job of getting themselves into this fustercluck. And (sadly/ hilariously) they're both relying on the other side to help get them out of it.
