Seth Jones just got $9.5M, pretty soon Eichel at $10M is going to be a bargain - Pegullaville
Apples and Oranges to some extent. Chicago bought 7 years of UFA for Jones, Buffalo bought 3 years of UFA for Eichel. If Eichel is healthy that contract is fair, I will give you that, but the contracts aren't that comparable. |

The kids will be fine. We all have been on a team with someone with a bad attitude. After awhile …. It gets old |

I mean Seth Jones is terrible and Jack Eichel is an elite Centerman no matter how many UFA years were purchased. |

Matthews will be making $15m while Eichel still has 2 years left on his deal at $10 |

True. Not comparing players, more the circumstances when the contracts were signed |

I've seen this a lot. I kinda feel like he's talked enough to medical professionals to know what can be done and what can't. Would you risk 50M to just have a skate with the boys. I doubt they're going 100%, and his medical team probably said something along the lines of you can't really make it worse, it just might be really uncomfortable. TBH, none of us are in any of the medical rooms, and are purely speculative at this point. - SDSabre
Maybe Jack's testing the pain threshold.
Skating pick up games is like PT for nhl players.
I'm sure he wants neither surgery.

Can you imagine, the Sabre win the lottery while not being a last place team, draft Wright and the Sabres end up having Eichel come back at 100% and he plays.
Obviously is NOT going to happen but the top 3 centers would be Eichel Wright and Cozens...
Still miss the playoffs lol - Stripes77
👍
I was thinking the Sabres stay afloat thru the team reccomeneded surgery. 3 months.
Sabres stay in contention thru February, eichel comes back, plays great...
Leads us to within a few points of the playoffs, last couple weeks feel like the playoffs.....
He stays (enjoying the push) or gets traded coming off a good healthy run. |

Fair enough. I just listened to the 31 Thoughts podcasy with the doctor that recommended the artificial replacement and it's an intriguing discussion but I'm not qualified to give any real opinion either - SkjeiStadium
Both sides have there points, either side could be right. But for the doctors aspect, the guy that helped develop the disc, is the Sabres Doctor and he's the one saying NO to that Surgery. |

You keep pushing this salary retention.
Will not happen.
The Pegulas have a yacht to build. - dadeadhead
Retention makes sense to me:
Helps hit the floor minimum retaining a few million
Maximizes the return
Avoids a cap dump vet from crying for a few seasons
Negatives-
Embarrassment of paying eichel to win elsewhere and beat us.
Cap dump would be a shorter period of time than 5 years of retained salary

My understanding is that’s a hard no, especially when it come to Jack. |

Terry's stubborn pride is what got him screwed in the ROR deal. Salary retention is not ideal, but it's better than settling for a bag of Berglunds, and carries more leverage than a short term cap dump that will take ice time from the kids. It's probably the only way to get a grade A piece back in return. |

You hang onto him unless the Colts want to overpay. I saw something saying the Bills should consider a 4th or 5th round pick. Not a chance. |

This needs to stop
It is in the CBA, it is in his contract which he knowingly signed.
There is no basic human rights violation.
He has his right to a second opinion, he went that route. He can file for medical arbitration, but hasn't done so. - Stripes77
I disagree.
Yes it is in the contract he signed.
Tough.
We are talking about an injury that will impact his quality of life, not a sprained ankle.
Honestly surprised you, and anyone would take such a harsh perspective on this. |
