Care to elborate? - ImThatGuy
Basically nobody can understand how the NHLPA allowed the wording in the CBA to let teams have controls over players injuries.
Every major league, players under contract, the team determines the medical treatment. He sold his soul for $10MM a year.
I'm on board with Eichel getting surgery, let him have it.
If it goes bad, then you have pissed away any return and have to pay him out of pocket, the insurance doesnt cover his salary.
The Sabres have completely botched this IMO, I understand Eichels frustration.
The surgery he wants is unprecedented for a pro athlete. They are doing the conservative approach with a $10MM asset and you wont find another team or team doctor that would allow this surgery for a "franchise player"
The SAbres refusing medical records is insane.
ITs called leverage. When negotiating you maintain leverage. Clearly the Sabres know what information they have and wont let anyone see behind the curtain until its appropriate. IE. they know something that we dont know. So saying its insane (and fairly enough me saying its not insane) is speculation. We wont know until its all over, and at some point, we will find out. Logically thinking, they are doing this for a reason which will become apparent in time.
Convenient that the interview basically put Eichels records out there.
Again - speculation. As fans we chose sides in a team vs player argument. That is no longer what this is about, its about getting the most for the asset. We will find out in time what it is.
In other words - no other team is going to agree to a deal until they see the medical records. The Sabres wont show the records until they get a deal that they like, but will show the records once they have a deal in place that they can agree to.
The Sabres know something about the injury or wouldnt approach it this way. If he is damaged goods, then they would take whatever they could get for him. He is using the injury as leverage - and they KNOW it. So we will see how hurt he is when the Winter Olympics happen... |

Jeremy White is probably the most reasonable, eloquent voice on that station.
Schopp openly admits to barely paying attention to the sports he covers and has become basically a fantasy football/gambling commentator
Howard Simon is just out of touch and never funny despite trying
Bulldog seems like a genuinely good dude but really has no interesting or thought provoking takes whatsoever.
White actually provides some good debate. - sbroads24
He seems to actively dislike the sport of hockey at times. Or at least the NHL |

First off the surgery has been performed, on Rugby, NFL and MMA athletes, so that is false.
I was on the teams side at first, I am now on Eichels.

Or an insurance company would take on the actual cash part of this contract should he not be able to return.
That's the other piece that is missing as well. Either an owner has no issues taking on a $50 million potential loss out of pocket, or they find an insurance company to take on the financial side of his contract. - Stripes77
You think an insurance company is just going to sign a check for $50MM because his experimental (on a pro athlete) surgery didnt work out? This isnt a $2,500 fender bender. The insurance company wouldnt sign off on it, and certainly would litigate the crap out of it if the team wanted to try to cash in on the policy should he not be able to play. |

They won't which is exactly why this is at a stand still
I can't blame any party here.
Jack wants a specific surgery. It is risky but it would give him the best chances to be 100%.
The Sabres want a different surgery because it's less risky and they want to protect their $10 million a year asset.
The agent is doing what he thinks is best for his client.
Adams is doing what's best for his team.
The Pegulas are protecting $50 million
Medical arbitration probably won't happen here.

Have to hope some team is willing to allow him to have his preferred surgery, or this could drag on and on and on |

The surgery the Sabres want, is knowingly shortening Jacks career though, correct?. Fusion is what 10 years on a standard person and would most likely be shorter for him to have another surgery.

There were rumors that teams agreed with the Sabres on this.
Which could be another reason they aren't too keen on going after Jack until he proves he is healthy.

Now this is humor. I remember listening to his Jeff Skinner love fest and he called him "a great hockey player" during the no score years. The Risto hate fest for years, which I am sure helped build the high opinion you have of him, and the Risto trade gives him a real buzz kill by garnering a high 1st round pick, a 2nd and a player.
No, Jeremy White should stick to maybe football because hockey is not his thing.

I notice you didnt say hockey player.
I have no issue with you having an opinion, but this is way more complex an issue than him having surgery.
Hes using the surgery to leverage his way out of Buffalo, the Sabres arent letting that happen for free. It's their right to handle it the way they want, and from their perspective, the surgery is too risky.
Let another team deal with the risk, and I would suggest that the Boston Bruins tell him what to do, he shuts his mouth and does what they tell him to do. Since its the Sabres, he says no.
When it comes down to it, the Sabres own him for the next 5 years. They can handle the situation however they want. Undoubtedly they believe he is bluffing, and they are calling it. They signed up to pay $80MM for the rights to do so, and he happily signed that contract.

SO Rugby, NFL
This surgery is fine for those sports, which are 1000% way more physical than the NH, buts its not OKay for a hockey player
Logic doesn't fit here.

I dont know. Not my problem. 5 years is all I care about, and hopefully soon we get a great return and I could care less what another team does or allows him to do.
Now you know why pro athletes want to get P A I D.
Because this is exactly what happens.
This is business. He is a piece of meat - a hired gun - nothing more. An asset we need to maximize our return for

You get hit harder in the NHL than both football and rugby
That has been proven by science. Rugby is more physically demanding, but it's the bigger hits that concern the team and other surgeons and NHL hits are more severe.
A massive hit could dislodge the artificial disc and then you're talking about a paralyzed Jack if not worse. |
