You know what’s better than that glorious rebuild?
Being told for the last 8 years that you’re gonna be in a rebuild that doesn’t happen. Pure bliss. - RickJames77
I've been predicting that the big bad B's gonna be the biggest disappointment THIS year last couple of years now... |

Don’t get me wrong, I get your point.
That being said, I still think CBJ did the right thing. I think they owed it to their core and the fan base and trading them wouldn’t have changed their perception any. That might be one of the best shots they ever get. - RickJames77
I think it was the right idea too. They sacked picks and prospects to take that run and I'm glad they did.
I think Dubas also owes his core to go for it right now too. That's why I'm not upset when Hymen walks or if Rielly walks next off season.

Yesterday’s topic: OMG Nylander is skating already, doing drills! What’s Marner doing? Wakeboarding in Muskoka!
Today’s topic: Nylander wasn’t selected to Sweden’s national team summer camp because he’s obviously hurt and has to rest up.
Ok? 🤔 |

Didn’t realize you needed a wrist to skate. I really have to learn how to hockey.

Par Lindholm
Imagine being so thick that you think Nylander > Zibanejad, Landeskog.
If we’re including D, then Hedman, Dahlin, OEL, Karlsson.. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Yeah put Karlsson on D and they have NO chance!! |

The real problem would be if Matthews walks. I worry the same about Pastrnak |

You’re clueless eh.?
- not at all a fan of the way he plays
- arguably one of the Leafs best player last season including playoffs (Top 5/6 at least)
- for what he gets paid vs output his contract looks pretty damn good where I stand
If you are making the argument that he is a bum or burner of a player - that’s crazy, man. Just looks silly.
I would argue he’s one dimensional and too many of those types isn’t a recipe for Playoff success and maybe they have too many softies, but to try and say he’s a bad player is insane. He’s a Top 6 player on most every team.
He is also one handsome devil though. |

Umm, the teams he doesn't play for?
Yet.
When he walks at free agency he'll be a top six on the new team. |

So whether he passes your ‘eye test’ or not, and again personally I don’t like watching him play.
The fact is he produces though. 14th in NHL (right wingers) last season in points 42 pts in 51 gp (missed a few). He did that not playing on the teams Top Line (perceived). That’s pretty good.
62 Right Wingers Total play on NHL teams top 2 lines. He ranked 14th in pts on a 2nd line.
124 Wingers comprise the Top 2 Lines (4 per team LW & RW) - he ranked 33rd.
He can also play Centre (though not a fan at all of him at centre - doesn’t work hard enough). |

He's really good second line winger there just isn't any denying that. And he doesn't disappear in the playoffs. |

I like how he can skate out of trouble with the puck still on his stick, he's still young also and he's going to get even better at it. |

Having said all that, if he made Marner money I'd want him gone also.
And if Marner made Nylander money I wouldn't want him gone. |

I do agree Marner is very much overpaid, for sure.
Again, I’m a bit older and am not a fan of the way either play. |

You seen't that some Greek dude did the Gear 2nd pose and won gold? Some 'Murican guy just did Franky's Super pose, and I fully expect him to win the gold soon. |

So sell off unless it’s a sure thing? After the season they had, you would have moved Hyman at the deadline. They were easily the best team in the division and it those circumstances you take a shot.
Trade Rielly if there’s a good trade available that helps or doesn’t hurt the team this year. I don’t believe in pissing away the few years left on Matthews’ contract. If there’s no deal, use the year to develop Sandin - he’s not ready to move up the pairings this year - and spend the $5M next year. Pissing away Matthews’ years is the worst asset management 8 can think of. - Canada Cup
So hypothetical.....keep in mind I am 100% adverse to losing assets for nothing in an attempt to win Cup "this year" mentality because you should be able to replace or fill that asset from the rookie pool or other players available and the Cup is not guaranteed to any team, and why pull of Hyman or Andersen again...so
If you could trade Rielly right now for a Seth Jones deal your answer is:
A) Nope, we're winning the Cup
or
B) Yep trade him, because maybe even if the Leafs figure it out and are winning the Cup will this year and Rielly might be THE pivotal cog in the Cup run wheel THIS year...even though he hasn't been in the last 5...and besides that it seems like a good move to play it smart and get assets back instead of getting nothing...
What do you chose???
I'm straight on choosing B. Period.
The fear of change is the loss the Leafs keep feeding us....for muthafu2king years. If you don't win after 2 years....FIX IT!
Why 7 chances with the same core but only peripheral changes??? Dumb to me. |

Because not winning and letting assets walk for nothing during a flat Cap era is going to keep him here?!?!
Come on guys, seriously??? |
