I’m a Hyman fan and nobody thought he deserved a pay cut, not even Roger. Stop Max, it’s ok to have your own opinion but it’s tough to make stuff up when we’re all in here every day...

Every day, what a loser I am.

- Garnie

how is a 2.5mln x 4y a pay cut coming from a 2.25mln deal x 4, considering covid uncertainties? (and then again, i put in 3.5mln x 4 -- that's definitely above what most in here were estimating last year).

oh hello no!! Even before last season Hymans stats would have made him at a minimum of $4.5 mil over a 4-5 year term.

I thought the Leafs were gonna get him signed for $5mil X 4 years after the expansion draft. It would have been a mistake to go 7 years at $5.5m. 7 years is way too much for a player his age(only the elite talents are exceptions. you can sign them for big money to the age of 36)

- Njuice

Does any of it really matter, he's going to become a free agent. If he wasn't going to sign the offer he should have been traded.
This team always wastes assets and they just aren't getting better.

I thought I read lower, but regardless...i don’t think I read 2.5 either.

He deserves to get paid, play as much as our $11m C and more then our $7m winger and then get low balled by the GM 🤷🏻‍♂️

We’ll be fine, he’ll be fine.

August 2022:

Max says Dubas should have signed Rielly a year ago for 4 million x 5 years and how everyone said Rielly was only worth 3.5 million a year.

Matthews won the rocket trophy. Leafs had best winning percentage in team history. I don't know how they aren't getting better.

Yes they underperformed and blew it in the playoffs but it doesn't mean the team isn't better.

sparks over mcelhinney.
keeping johnsson and kerfoot at absurd salaries.
getting rid of kapanen.
rittich.
not trading away nylander.
locking up marner and matthews 12months too late.
trevor moore.
marchment for malkin 2.0 trade.
barrie..

i could go on.

- MaximusAurelius

Hyman walking into UFA
Marner's contract
Matthew's contract is too short for the $
Not signing Rielly this summer and letting him walk for free too...probably.

January 2021 - Leafs43:
Zach Hyman: Biggest disappointment this year. Will struggle when outside of top 6.

August 2021 - Leafs43:
We all knew Hyman was going to get at least 4.5AAV on a long term deal.

please explain...

They got to play the likes of Edmonton Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Ottawa 8 times each.
Lets see that lofty winning percentage this year.

Hyman was good here. He’ll be good there for a while. Holland doesn’t care about long term which is why he wanted another year to lower AAV.

It would have been absurd to move him last year.

I'll try to explain something that I find very simple to understand using Rielly as an example.

Currently - Rielly's value is 7 million+ on a long term deal. That's minimum what it would cost to resign him today.

Now, let's say that I predicted Rielly was going to have a disappointing season this year, and I posted as much in a prediction thread - that doesn't change the fact that I believe Rielly's current contract value is 7 million+.

Get it?

I was never in favor of trading away Hyman.
i wanted him to be resigned long term and made Assistant Captain after Tavares got the C (still think Hyman was the better choice for C).

To me, Hyman together with Rielly, Tavares and Marner were the 4 players you build around -- Matthews and Nylander for character issues not part of that core.
Muzzin's probably the 5th on the core list -- not the best D-man, but seems to be a gud pro.
