Marginally, but at more than twice the cost. Those cap dollars could be better spent elsewhere.
Edit*. Make that 4 times the cost - Ogilthorpe2
I don't know what to expect, i kind of think bringing him in helps Lanky to be able to get rest between starts and vice versa. I think this was a really good move for the team |

Wait you complain that the Hawks should stick to the rebuild.... but are also complaining that the Hawks are wasting cap space on a goalie?
So the Hawks should have used that cap space on a better assets? Which would make them better? Which would then mean not in the middle of a rebuild?

I think it is presumptuous to think he will break a 3 year trend, too. For the sake of being a fan of the Hawks, I sure the (frank) hope he does.
The reality, once again as shown by the numbers, is Jones has never been elite be any impartial measures. The hope he magically becomes elite is a fool's errand.
He is never going to live up to his contract. He is not nor ever has been worth being one of the top 5 paid D-men. He looks the part but his performance has never equaled it.
Best we can hope for is him to not totally suck like he did last season and being mediocre the season before. - Elbows15
Fair.
I don't think he is/will be elite either. I'm less hung up on the contract, although I understand why people are. I just think he will be notably better than what we've had recently, which - while overpaid - is important. |

I think both teams were in decline last year anyways, both playing in front of rookie goal tenders, and poor forward play. I guess we'll see but i hope he starts trending the other way now that he doesn't have to worry about being paid.

How much better can they get in one offseason? A ton of players got a lot of experience last year. Most of them likely won't see much NHL ice time this year unless there is an injury. According to most here, that is a good thing for their development (which I am happy about).
Stan had to still ice a team. He did Keith a solid sending him closer to his kid and got a larger D prospect than many in the system that can play now instead of 2-3 years from now. He also traded for one of the better overall D-men who was actually available. I'm well aware of your feelings on the trade and we'll have to agree to disagree here.
He notably improved the goaltending (for one year) which will allow them to be more competitive overall and still allow Lankinen to progress without burning him out.
I personally see a decent forward group (especially if both Toews and Dach are fully healthy, although I'm not holding my breath on the former). They have scoring wings. some more size, and competition for spots on most of the lines. Is it great? No, but it's better than they were. Chasing a high draft pick is not a good plan in my book. - Chunk
It’s not about getting better in one off season. It’s about staying the course and building a good team for the long haul which this move has severely hampered.

If you are going to spend the money, which they certainly didn’t need to, then why not get a player or two at a position of need? |

Here is the thing which most people fail to take into account. Most of the metrics account for teammates. And how they perform relative to their teammates.
Its not perfect or the only way to evaluate. I use them verify wtf I am seeing. I knew keith was playing bad last season and the numbers backed it up. |

Because of what is expected to be one mid-1st round pick? Or is it the money they gave him? |

They could have spent the same amount of money, kept their assets, and got the better player in Hamilton.
Too many posters seem to fixate on Boqvist and those that didn't like the move as a comparison between Boqvist and Jones. It isn't. It is what is the best use of the assets to me. Jones wasn't worth the cost of assets in addition to the 12% of the cap he takes in the next 8 seasons after this one.
In order for him to even come close to the cost, he needs to win at least one Norris. |

I honestly expect Keith to perform better in Edmonton this season. Nowhere close to the player he once was but better to what I believe he is still capable of being at 38.
He looked like a player trying to do far too much last season and ends up doing everything wrong. JMO. |

just to make a point. And those didn't even include LHD.
There are only 3 I wouldn't want more than Jones. Letang, Burns and Faulk. For various reasons. |

Oh I'm sure he'll put up a ton of assists with the 100 point man in Edmonton. |

One potential top-10 pick , +moving back 21 slots in this past draft, +giving up an 8th overall pick in Boqvist, +the outrageous cap hit

Jeff Petry and Justin Faulk? 35 year old Brent Burns who has been on the decline for several years? Wow.....ok.
Edit: Lot of aging D-men that are in decline.... which is your main beef with S. Jones. |
