What was the AAV? I just checked The Athletic and the only detail it provided was the length of the deal.

Edit: never mind, thanks Peter

yeah, 5.75. That's not bad I guess. It's a gamble at that term IMO.

I didn’t realize he was basically 27 until I read The Athletic’s article

yeah, but 8 years takes him to 35/36. that's basically the rest of his career. He's no superstar, but plays a solid defensive game. players decline (statistically, significantly) at 32/33, so the last few years might be hard to make him worth it, hence my comment about the term. But it's a decent contract for the first 4 or 5 years.

Sounds like they are going to put the money up for Pulock and keep the Pelech-Pulock top pairing going.

Agreed - I’d be fine with it on my team. I’m just saying I was surprised he was 27. I thought he’d be younger.

me 10 mins ago - shootouts are dumb
me now - shootouts are good

Shootouts are still (frank)ing stupid -- especially in the team-iest of sports, soccer.

But I'm willing to overlook it... this time. 🥇

No. Archer can still stand up.

But that is his role model.

Pelech goes 5.75x8... is there anyone who still thinks Rielly signs for sub-7M?

He seems to think there are 10 or 15 players that are the best player out of every draft.

I just saw an article this morning where he proclaimed Jake Sanderson the best player from his draft. (written before he was hired as GM). Sanderson was a botched draft pick imo.

He’s getting 8+ regardless of today’s signings I would think.

I get all my medical and political news from Facebook - from a guy I went to high school with.

He dropped out.

But he's pretty astute when it comes to virology.

They need to go to broomball rules.

Play 3 minutes of 10 on 10

Then 3 minutes of 9 on 9

Keep pulling players off the field until someone scores.

Oh, I don't think this signing affects Rielly at all -- but there is a vocal contingent here who seems to think he's going to sign a home town discount contract of < 7M.

It does effect the Rielly situation, at the very least it will put pressure on Dubas to act sooner than later. The Leafs must realize that signing Rielly and keeping the forty-million four are mutually exclusive. A trade similar to the Seth Jones deal would be great, but it's harder to do now that the draft is in the rear window. The biggest roadblock realistically is how many GM's view Rielly as a legitimate cornerstone #1 defenseman.

I honestly don't think Rielly is going anywhere this season. It's possible Dubas tries to re-up him but I'm think it's pretty unlikely during this off-season that it would get done.

Frankly, I don't think he's a cornerstone #1 defenseman at this point. I guess the question to ask is: do you need a legit stud to win the whole thing? Or, can you have a group of Muzzin-Brodie types in your Top 4 running the show. Guys that are effective in all areas but not stud #1 types. If that's the case, Rielly needs to go and we need to find a guy who is an all-purpose defender as a replacement. And yes, upgrade Holl please.
