They need to go to broomball rules.
Play 3 minutes of 10 on 10
Then 3 minutes of 9 on 9
Keep pulling players off the field until someone scores. - Atomic Wedgie
Field is too big for athletes that have run that far. I prefer the way it is now. |

These other scenarios are demeaning. 6 on 6 or 5 on 5 on that field is even more Mickey Mouse than a shoot out. Realistically picture what that would be like |

Taking the ultimate team game and relegating it to an individual shooting contest is (frank)ing stupid.
There's nothing "demeaning" about opening up the field and allowing for more room and creativity in extra time.
Or... perhaps lift the off side rule in extra time. Allow players to roam more. Anything to avoid the stupidity of going to kicks. |

I honestly don't think Rielly is going anywhere this season. It's possible Dubas tries to re-up him but I'm think it's pretty unlikely during this off-season that it would get done.
Frankly, I don't think he's a cornerstone #1 defenseman at this point. I guess the question to ask is: do you need a legit stud to win the whole thing? Or, can you have a group of Muzzin-Brodie types in your Top 4 running the show. Guys that are effective in all areas but not stud #1 types. If that's the case, Rielly needs to go and we need to find a guy who is an all-purpose defender as a replacement. And yes, upgrade Holl please. - mjones242
It's a great point, and I was thinking about that earlier in the off-season. Where does Rielly fit? Which teams would Morgan Rielly be a #1 defenseman on? Here's my thinking (TL; DR: I think Pittsburgh, Seattle and Detroit).
Teams that could (at least in theory) use Rielly and would consider him a #1 by talent contrast:
Pittsburgh: He would be a #1 there. Letang was better at his peak, but not anymore.
Boston: McAvoy and Carlo are very good. Not as offensively skilled, but more rounded. To your point: on Boston, Rielly is probably not what they want.
Winnipeg: They have Morrissey who I love. Rielly is probably a better contributor, but it'd be a tough call.
Montreal: He might be a #1 there with Weber down. Petry is pretty good. I still like how tough their back-end is with Chiarot and Edmundson as cross-checking heir apparents.
Philadelphia: Provorov is certainly up for debate. I'm sure a lot would think he's better. He's more rounded, but Rielly is a stronger offensive contributor
NYI: Pelech or Pulock are both good, but Rielly is probably better than either one in terms of controlling offense from the back-end. On a Trotz team, Rielly probably doesn't fit in as well.
Calgary: A couple of years ago, I probably would have thought Hanifin. I'm less impressed now.
Seattle: I think Dunn, Oleksiak, Larsson, Soucy, Giordano . . .they're all fine. They are all great 3/4 guys, but Rielly would be a clear #1 on that team; Gio is 37 so he's just sort of out of consideration, but he was a better all around defenseman.
Detroit: Their defense makes Seattle's look like the best in the league. Jesus Christ. I hadn't looked at it before today. Speaking of Jesus, I expect that defense to have more holes than his hands. Yuck.
Teams that already have a better #1 option, and maybe more than 1:
Tampa: Hedman
Dallas: Heiskanen
Arizona: Chychrun
Chicago: Not now that they have Jones.
Edmonton: Nurse
Vegas: Pietrangelo
St. Louis: Parayko, but even with Krug there's an argument to be made.
Colorado: Makar; I also like Girard and expect a lot out of Byram
Washington: Carlson
LA: Doughty
SJ: Burns and Karlsson. Maybe long in the tooth and way overpaid, but both are better.
Florida: Ekblad
Columbus: Werenski
Carolina: Slavin and frankly I also still really like Pesce
Vancouver: Hughes
NYR: Fox and maybe Trouba. I've never really liked Trouba that much, but some do. I'd rather have Rielly.
Jersey: Hamilton
Nashville: Josi
Anaheim: Manson or Lindholm? Lindholm is basically the same player. Hard to argue you'd rather have Rielly.
Minnesota: Spurgeon, Brodin or Dumba? I like all three for different parts of their game. I suppose Spurgeon is probably the best of them.
Ottawa: Chabot (certainly debatable, but there's not a ton to choose from when they're at their best)
Buffalo: Dahlin. He's not shown it, but no one in Buffalo would do a 1 for 1 swap between them.

Did the Olympic committee ask the players to play shirts vs skins?

Play 120 plus minutes and you end up with 3 or 4 players covering that size field is a stupid gimmick and not soccer, football or whatever the Japanese name for it is. Asking the players to do that after the game they just played would be take away from the game IMO |

I do'nt think I'd say either are better at this point. Karlsson is even worse of a tire fire defensively than he was for years, but now without the offense. Burns is rather average offensively, and meh defensively. oh and he's 36 years old.
Hughes in vancouver is rather debateable as well. He's shown he can contribute but he was also one of the worst messes in his own end in the entire league this year. |

You are talking about the Olympics where field hockey (complete with whammy sticks and bizzare corner possession rules decide games) and (frank)en synchronized swimming is an actual event. My favorite is live pigeon shooting at the 1900 Paris Olympics.
And you are talking about gimmicks? Please don't tell me that the Olympic is for sports purists!

I’m not talking about gimmicks (used wrong word). I’m talking about women who have been running their asses off for mor than two hours now having to cover the full field with 3 or 4 players. Anyway synchro rules
