This is one of those cases where the NHL's silence on the matter is sort of deafening. Especially in today's socially hyper-charged environment (not that I'm saying there's a good time for sexual harassment, but there are worse times and now is one of them) - where you see the MLB, NBA and NFL reacting to domestic assault cases or accusations in rapid fashion and getting in front - the NHL is really far behind.
Again, something like this - as soon as the story broke, get an investigator of your own in there and figure out what happened. Be ahead of the situation and story. Control the narrative. This is damage control 101. They haven't done it with Kane either - another case where I would have expected good leadership to get in front of a situation and determine the impacts and courses of action to take. - Monkeypunk
Um, one is a criminal offense and should be left to the proper authorities. |

Well, that was part of my point in saying Dubas will know what it takes to sign him and can make that decision with that information that we don’t have. I do wonder, however, if he’ll hang onto him regardless to try and save his job. He can’t have a dual mandate of winning and retooling, which is what trading his #1 defenseman would be IMO. I don’t think Shanahan is going to want to wait a few years while he sorts out the backend. - RickJames77
It depends on the ask.. If Rielly signs for 6-6.5M per, then sure, keep him.. If he wants Darnell Nurse type money, trade him immediately. Shanny will understand |

That I totally understand. At the same time, whatever you get in return for him will also be linked to that number. A team acquiring him is gonna want to know what he’s seeking for his next contract. |

Yeah agreed, but how is that different than any other player? Unless you’re pushing all of your chips to the center of the table. - RickJames77
It's no different than any other player, I've been beating this dead horse since Bozak and Jvr. Sign them or don't let them walk for nothing. |

Rielly has far to many defensive warts to be paying him the kind of dough that's being pulled from these guys.
Trade him. |

Perhaps another team views Rielly as being worth 9 million per on a long term deal.
Take that horse to water. |

There’s is a time, though when you say (frank) it and go for it. Is this the time for the Leafs to do that? I see that you think not and I’d probably agree with that.
Unless Dubas pulls off a hockey trade with Rielly, he’s as good as gone. Deals like that are tough and I bet Dubas holds onto him either way and “goes with his core group for better or worse”. |

There very well may be, but I don’t think it’ll be a team looking for a hockey trade and I’d bet Dubas won’t want picks and prospects. Not to beat a dead horse, but just wanted to respond to everyone since I’m not a Leafs fan and brought it up. |

Anyway, Muzzin is the best defenseman on this team. He makes Holl look good.

Um, one is a criminal offense and should be left to the proper authorities. - bobbyisno1
In this case there is more than just criminal offenses. That particular aspect can be managed on its own by the proper authorities - who have to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime was committed. There is also the civil aspect, where they don't have as strict of a burden in proving their case.
Beyond that, and more importantly to the NHL itself is brand protection. Doing nothing makes them look like they condone the behaviour or at least are willing to ignore it, if not defend it. All other major brands (NFL, MLB, NBA) would have been looking into this to see where the case stood and if they needed to issue a temporary suspension to the management people involved. This is not new. This type of thing has been happening for years. The NHL is definitely behind the times here and it's not smart business when you consider the potential impact to sponsors and future revenue if it comes out that they knew more and did nothing. |

Before this season, I thought 7-7.5M would be his top dollar.
Now with the money being ended to defensemen.... It's bound to be closer to 8.5.

If I have learned anything this off-season, and it is likely that I haven't, but teams are willing to overpay players.. I am sure some other team will take him |

Definitely, Hyman took advantage of a team willing to overpay, Rielly will as well.. There are no hometown discounts.. If Rielly asks for $8M or more (I think he will get it) you need to trade him now..
Not lose him for nothing |

If we are talking about Kane and the gambling allegations, I agree with your bolded statement 100%.
If we are talking about the current allegations against the Chicago hockey team, oh boy, I disagree. |

I realize that I have a real sickness, but the thing I find most offensive about the entire quote is the improper (excessive) capitalisation. |
