From Oilersnation
Breakdown of Darnell Nurse deal
Year 1 – $12-million salary
Year 2 – $10.4-million salary
Year 3 – $12-million salary
Year 4 – $10-million salary
Year 5 – $2-million salary, $6-million signing bonus
Years 6-8 – $1.2-million salary, $6-million signing bonus
The entire length of the contract carries a no-movement clause and in the final three years of the deal, Nurse will provide a 10-team no-trade list.
Beyond getting their top defenceman locked up through the Oilers cup window, there’s very little beneficial about this deal from Edmonton’s perspective. If Edmonton wished to buy out the final year(s) of his deal in an absolutely worst-case scenario move, they would incur cap hits virtually equal to his current AAV (if my math is correct, and I’m not certain it is).
Best-case scenario down the road, the Oilers don’t have to worry about that. It would look like Nurse continuing to get better as he has for the last number of years earning every single penny of his deal while bringing a/some championship/s home to Edmonton. (Their words, not mine...)
OUCH on the signing bonus on top of the huge salary!
JB take some notes and...
DON'T DO THIS WITH THE CANUCKS UPCOMING CONTRACTS! - carsonagenic
I like Nurse a lot but they overpaid him 3 mil a year too much and 3 years too long.

I would have said that is getting harder to believe year to year but it is now hard to believe week to week. Fires are getting worse and temperatures are getting too fucking hot to tolerate. I know you were being sarcastic . Something's gotta give. - VANTEL
Yes. Catch the clowns that are deliberately setting the fires and most of it will go away. Fairly simple. |

I havent watched a second of it either, but why is it a "woke" joke (genuine question) - Codes1087
I think it's fairly self explanatory. No need to get into it with the champs in here lol
But hey, you can't test positive for doping at the Olympics but Women can compete with a penis and Men can compete with a Vagina Honestly bro this sh!t is just too funny not to love it!!

I agree, I like the player but at that money I’d want a shutdown guy that can produce offense. He’s fine offensively but I’m not sure how much I trust him as a shutdown guy against top lines. He can play that role, but I don’t think he’s good enough at it to earn that type of a contract. |

I agree it has been.
I feel sorry for Japan . All that money spent and I think they would have thrown a spectacular show . All the money down the drain to perform to empty seats. - VANTEL

Johnny Hockey on trade block again according to E5??
- LordHumungous
Should have traded him a year ago, has less value now as a pending American UFA playing in a Canadian market.
I hope they keep him long term though, it’s fun to watch him disappear in the playoffs |

I am not sure how you feel about Hughes but I hope his contract is not even close to that. Hughes should be signed for 3 x 5 mil. I think anything after that is not justified. I realize he puts up points but he has so many question marks behind his play. I would rather do short term and see what he really is. If not I would be willing to move on from him. |

Hughes is a great talented young player, but we have to admit that his defensive game is a work in progress which is fine for a player at his age. A bridge deal seems to be the way to go. |

Another reason that the Shaw hiring was great, he mentioned how he got 170lb Markus Nutivarra to become good at winning board battles |

That’s too bad because there has been some unbelievable performances by Canadians. Historic even. Might be our best summer games ever. - bloatedmosquito
Have had to take it easy the last few weeks. Recently got diagnosed with SVT. Been trying new beta blockers to try and see if we can fix it without needing ablasion surgery. Mainly been doing some light gardening and cooking and taking the kids on walks and what not.
I did end up watching the women's penalty kicks. Was awesome. Haven't seen anything live though |

You need to take care and honestly HB is the last place to be to relax . Take some time away and come back when the season starts.

Haha I don't get wound up on here. Don't post as much as I used to either though. I've been taking it easy and not letting my heart do anything crazy around the house. |

With the rapid inflation of Dmen contracts, 3 mil to much might be a bit harsh. Far be it from me to defend the Oilers, but I would have went 7 x 8 mil or 8 mil x 7 max for him. He is a good top pairing dman that checks off a lot of boxes (can score, fight, play actually D, and log huge minutes). But he isn't elite and now he makes more than Drai. The team is quickly becoming Leafs 2.0 with no cash. So YAY! |

GMs shooting themselves in the foot all over again. Pelech is a good deal for now , Nurse not so much. 8 years is way too long.

I took a bit of a detour in today's blog, looking at the upcoming schedule for 2021-22 and digging into the details of how the Olympics would work if NHL players do go.
Short version: it's workable. But the tournament's going to be a lot shorter than you might expect.
