Well to be fair, Nurse is pretty damn good and may yet get a bit better. Losing him in free agency next year would have been catastrophic for the Oilers blue line.

But yeah, it’s steep. I don’t think he should be making more than Miro, but I also didn’t think they Oilers should have bridged him to the cusp of free agency. Thus they have reaped what they’ve sown.
