The Sabres are currently $7.3M under the cap floor according to CapFriendly, and that's with Eichel's $10M cap hit factored in.
https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/sabres
They list 13 forwards and 5 defensemen with Mittelstadt, Dahlin, and Jokiharju to sign.
Estimating $2M for Mittelstadt, $6M for Dahlin, and $3M for Jokiharju brings them to $3.6M above the cap floor.
Neither Hayden or MacInnis are going to be on the Sabres, but Ruotsalainen will. That's exchanging $1.5M for $1M.
That brings the Sabres to roughly $3.1M above the cap floor if you include Eichel's cap hit.
I know there's talk about Adams not wanting to take cap back for Eichel, but I fail to see how that's going to be possible.
I don't know which free agents that would want to be here that wouldn't block spots for the young players the Sabres want to play and also would be expensive enough to make up for an Eichel trade that brings no cap back.
Bottom line is the smart move by Adams would be to take almost as much cap hit coming back as the other team needs in an Eichel trade, as long as that cap doesn't last for more than the next 2 seasons. |

Give Dahlin more money and term?
But you are right. Which ever team lands jack (not the rags) Adams will probably have to bring some celery back. Hopefully it’s only 1 year floor celery…. |

There's a chance they sign him for less than the $6M per that I estimated due to giving him a bridge deal. |

Sabres really need to decide on this medical issue. It isn't doing any good for each party. Not that I am to worried about how Jack feels about it. But it could help with the Sabres moving forward with there plans. |

Dahlin has got to want to give up that term. |

Any deal with the Rangers will have to include Strome, just like any deal with Anaheim will likely have to include Henrique.
The problem is the idea of flipping Strome for more picks and or prospects either right away or the trade deadline, as there's a real scenario where they will need his cap hit to reach the cap floor.
It's why retaining salary on Eichel in a trade is interesting... |

That's a well-written post, but for some reason (and I know it makes zero sense), I can see the Eichel thing dragging on all season and beyond. He won't report, and the Sabres won't (aren't able to ?) trade him, as the return won't be good enough in the eyes of Adams - and I'm fine with that. I can see that lasting 2 seasons. As dumb as that sounds, seriously - I can see that happening.
It's gonna get even uglier. |

Retaining salary would have its benefits for the next few years, just don't like that it would be for 5yrs. |

If they retain $2M, is that really a concern considering the cap is going up a $1M per season? |

Pre-Eichel trade Sabres’ Top 10 Prospect List, IMO of course (Less than 50 games of NHL experience and under the age of 23)
1) Cozens
2) Power
3) Johnson
4) Peterka
5) Quinn
6) Rosen
7) Samuelsson
8) UPL
9) Laaksonen
10) Poltapov |

No, that would actually be a good number 39, really would not want it much higher than that though. |

I get it, but I feel no sorrow for the Sabres and the situation their in due to the complete ineptitude they've displayed as a franchise for a decade now. |

Gotta be a way to engineer a 3 team trade in which
-Eichel goes to Calgary,
-Tkachuck lands in St Louis,
-Buffalo takes on Cap dumps for futures from both teams...prospects in the system, not so much draft picks as the center pieces as those won't be Lottery picks.
Could Adams squeeze Zary, Pelletier, Kyrou somehow?
Love to hear ideas. |

1- f the rags
2- not for 5 more years!!!! Hell the leafs are still retaining $1.2 on hotdog Phil.
- if you want to flip Henrique at the TDL you can find floor celery. There is always floor celery… at the ‘22 deadline itd be a ‘22-23 contract, but I’ll take $2-3 mill for one year of a maybe useful warm body vs. 5 years at whatever held… |

Think Power brought this up a blog back, but he had
Zary Pelletier Valimaki Thomas, gives us a lot of LD but could be used as trade chips. |

Is Peca’s kid in the St. Louis pipeline?
Teresanko needs to be moved before St. Louis can fit Tachuck. He has a nmc and a $7.5 celery for 2 seasons.
So, first issue, where are you sending terensanko? |

Meh, hate the pick, should have been Kaliyev. Don't care for Johnson, he's down the chart for me.

Somebody already mentioned it, but would Tarasenko agree to being traded to Buffalo with an assurance that the Sabres would move him before the season begins while retaining 50% ($3.75M)? |
