Should have been kept in house the whole time.

Calgary makes sense to me, especially for Calgary to offset loss of TK...do it via Buffalo retaining celery on him for the 2 years left. Hold 50% ($3.75m).
Total package to Calgary is $13.75m...they have ~$11.8m space now, plus $7m from Tkachuk.
They will be good and helps them add significant talent and allows them to sign a couple RFA's they have. If they need more space, well Sabres are open for business.
What is that worth to them...Zary, Pelletier, 1st, more?
Take Lucic as well for 2 years for Hayden...get Valmacki in return

St Louis would be ok as well as they would gain $0.5m space
They give us Kyrou...can they get more?? Add their 1st as well
That opens up $3.3m Cap space for them to resign Thomas
Hell give them Olofsson at 50% retained...still leaves them $1.8m Cap space...keep the 1st, now get Klim Kostin

Jack, Olofsson ((50%)
for
Zary, Pelletier, Kyrou, Kostin, Flames 1st
And taking on $10.5m in Cap for 1 year, $9m in year 2...then it's all gone!

Don't blame the Sabres for holding tight, but right now if Jack would of had the Surgery even mid May he would be 3 months out and you would have a very good idea of his health with either Surgery.
- Buff36

Do you think Jack is going to change to a surgery he has publically said no to?
Serious question.
I dont.

Unfortunately no I don't, but with him not being moved it kinda tells me other teams aren't very comfortable with that Surgery either.

Yeah hopefully. Fighting through the media hasn't benefited either side.

Any deal with the Rangers will have to include Strome, just like any deal with Anaheim will likely have to include Henrique.

The problem is the idea of flipping Strome for more picks and or prospects either right away or the trade deadline, as there's a real scenario where they will need his cap hit to reach the cap floor.

It's why retaining salary on Eichel in a trade is interesting...

am thinking this is a non-starter for uncle terry and co.

100%. Terry wants a clean break from Eichel.

it would seem that way...move him and if they have to take back a cap-dump as part of the return, go for it if it increases the value of the return...but i'm not sure retaining salary is such a good idea

Pre-Eichel trade Sabres’ Top 10 Prospect List, IMO of course (Less than 50 games of NHL experience and under the age of 23)

1) Cozens
2) Power
3) Johnson
4) Peterka
5) Quinn
6) Rosen
7) Samuelsson
8) UPL
9) Laaksonen
10) Poltapov

I've watched him, know he had a better year last year but there are several dmen ahead of him on the chart.

Sorry you don't like my opinion of him. I don't see him more than 5 or 6 at best and I would use him as trade bait. I'm very high on Samuellsson, Bryson and Laaksonen.

I wanted Kaliyev. Guys like Johnson are a dime a dozen out there but Kaliyev has talent and would have been a top 6 fixture for years.

Maybe I'll be wrong on Johnson and that's okay.

Leaks plays the right side, and Johnson is better prospect then Bryson was/is without a doubt. Johnson is on Samuelson’s level.

Seems more quiet on eichel, wonder if Kevyn and fish agreed to keep the situation private moving forward. Can only help move this along quicker which is what Jack seemingly wants.
- riptheguard

One minor note is that the Sabres also want Jack gone. It's not just Eichel who wants the divorce.

I tried and gave up.

I wanted the Sabres to draft a forward like Kaliyev instead of Johnson too, but that doesn't negatively impact Johnson's potential as a player.

Same here. I think Peterka is going to be a really good player I just don't know if he will be a big scorer but a solid all-around hard-working player that the team needs.

Johnson had a very good year this year at Minnesota.

I personally thought he was the best American D-man as well at the WJC, possibly 2nd behind his college teammate Faber.

Reminds me a lot of Ryan McDonagh.

The hate for him is because he’s not someone else is dumb. What has anyone that was drafted around him done in the NHL yet? Nothing really. They’re all just potential as of now

I wanted Brink if I’m going to be honest with you. Kaliyev’s footspeed is an issue and could hold him back at the NHL level.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter because there's no going back and changing who they picked. All that matters is Johnson's development.

Agreed, which has been very promising for not just last year at Minnesota, but the last half of his freshman year and his progression at the WJC

Because then he has to leave school?

He is only going into his Junior year (after two shortened college seasons due to Covid). My guess is he plays this year and when his season ends he signs his ELC

He also may want to play all 4 years at college and make his own decision on the team he joins.
