He also may want to play all 4 years at college and make his own decision on the team he joins. - kingcong39
Eh I am not worried about that.
If he doesn't sign his ELC after this season then that's something to be concerned with.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter because there's no going back and changing who they picked. All that matters is Johnson's development. - kingcong39
I'd like to see Johnson in AHL competition before I anoint him the next Bobby Orr. His development could be along the lines of Bryson and I would be fine with the kid. You could be right. He could be a top 4 dman for Buffalo and I'll gladly eat crow for it. I've certainly been wrong before. If he backs up last year to another good season this year, then we might have a very strong prospect. I'm just not sure about him at this point. |

Understandable.
He did look very good at the WJC20 though. He was steady-eddy back there, him and Faber were the best combo for actually playing the D game properly and effectively. He had some offensive moments as well, not alot but showed he could help in that way as well. I walked away think the Sabres might have stolen a very good defensive Dman with some level of O.
The difficulty will be playing on the left with Dahlin, Power and Samuelsson.
As far as Kaliyev, he has a good O game around the net for sure...the rest if his game is lacking and his skating isn't great...and he commitment to the D side of the game isn't there at all, not even a little bit. If that is who he remains, he better be potting 30+ G's consistently. |

Literally nobody is hyping him like that. Literally everyone is saying that he’s got potential and has looked good and would rank him higher then Jacob (frank)ing Bryson. The hyperbole is insane and makes it impossible to have a rational conversation, much like it’s not rational to dislike a guy because he’s not someone else or plays an overstocked position. Neither of those things are his fault or have an impact on how he develops as a prospect. For what it’s worth, predraft he was an organizational top 3 prospect by many outlets. But I’m sure you’ll take that as I’m calling him the next offensive EK65 with the defensive capabilities of prime Weber. |

And so it goes in Sabreland where prospects go to suspects seemingly overnight before they eventually become never-weres.

1 goal and 5 assists for a total of 6 points in 25 AHL games and he is soon to be 22 years old.

So honestly why have we not signed Dahlin and co. yet? What's the holdup here? |

I guess they made an offer to Dahlin that "was in the ballpark", according to (I think) GMKA. |

It’s not promising but Kris Baker pointed out that he really started to play well at the end of the year and I think he ended with 5 out of his 6 points in the final 6 or 7 games or something
I know he had 0 goals and 1 point through like 18 or 19 games I think so I know he finished strong |

Could potentially be one of those guys that puts it all together at 25-26. |

Ya, I still maintain the best way out is to let Jack have the surgery of his choice. If it truly is Replacement and Insurance doesn't cover the bills... offer to pay for it conditional on a Release of all future financial obligations in his contract IF he is unable to return to play w/in 6 months of surgery date.
No, that doesn't protect the loss of the asset should it go "south", but one could also view $10m Cap space as a highly prized asset as well. Besides, the chances are low of that happening g initially...it is the longer term risk to Jack's health should he sustain another injury to that exact area...but that is his decision, IMO.
Get Jack up and running asap should be the mantra. - IonSabres
Still not sure why/ how you are not taking "jack the asset" in consideration?
It's not just the money involved but, the actual trade value of eichel your risking with modern untested surgery.
Let him sit until healthy.
Play him and prove his health.
Make the trade after the season but, prior to his Ntc.
Lose this season
Gain assets in the next 2 strong drafts.
Profit

List of talent that will want out in 3 years?
Darcy never really said how long this suffering phase was going last...
Point is they need some talent now, or these guys will be ruined.

Sabres love making a splash just prior to the season.
Extending dahlin is a ticket based announcement.
Why sign him in August?
Pretty sure they have the parimeters of the contract.
Just a thought ☝️ |

The Sabres are currently $7.3M under the cap floor according to CapFriendly, and that's with Eichel's $10M cap hit factored in.
https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/sabres
They list 13 forwards and 5 defensemen with Mittelstadt, Dahlin, and Jokiharju to sign.
Estimating $2M for Mittelstadt, $6M for Dahlin, and $3M for Jokiharju brings them to $3.6M above the cap floor.
Neither Hayden or MacInnis are going to be on the Sabres, but Ruotsalainen will. That's exchanging $1.5M for $1M.
That brings the Sabres to roughly $3.1M above the cap floor if you include Eichel's cap hit.
I know there's talk about Adams not wanting to take cap back for Eichel, but I fail to see how that's going to be possible.
I don't know which free agents that would want to be here that wouldn't block spots for the young players the Sabres want to play and also would be expensive enough to make up for an Eichel trade that brings no cap back.
Bottom line is the smart move by Adams would be to take almost as much cap hit coming back as the other team needs in an Eichel trade, as long as that cap doesn't last for more than the next 2 seasons. - kingcong39
Probably just a negotiation tactic on Adams part
Smart of him
He’ll eventually give in to taking Cap back & make it seem like a concession on his part- even though he’d planned all along to do it |
