Still not sure why/ how you are not taking "jack the asset" in consideration?

It's not just the money involved but, the actual trade value of eichel your risking with modern untested surgery.

Let him sit until healthy.
Play him and prove his health.
Make the trade after the season but, prior to his Ntc.
Lose this season
Gain assets in the next 2 strong drafts.

Every team has made draft mistakes but few, if any, have made as many as the Sabres. The Sabres inability to draft and develop quality NHL players for over 2 decades is the #1 reason for the team’s lack of success and dearth of playoff appearances.

When not selecting in the top 5 and taking no-brainers like Vanek, Eichel, Reinhart and Dahlin the Sabres have been spectacularly inept throughout the NHL draft under Regier, GMTM, and Botterill.

I think you may need to look thru the glasses of tank4.

-$10 million towards the cap floor / need to sign less losers.

-Sabres are punting the asset. Not losing the services, per say. His services are not needed this season, take your time jackie.

When winning is losing, this makes perfect sense.
