There is no "negative value" to taking back Ryan Strome and Georgiev for a year. They are throw in's. Fine. There is no trade without them being included in the return strictly due to cap purposes.
Without anything else, Eichel is at least worth next years 1st, ONE OF Kakko/Lafreniere/Kravtsov, and ONE of Schneider/Lundkvist. You lose the trade with the Rangers if you don't get back at least this. However, I personally think Lafreniere is off limits and you're picking between Kravtsov or Kakko, in which case I'd definitely want Kakko. - mochoson
dude do you even watch the rangers? Kravtsov is also a bum. He got sent to the AHL and sucked on the 4th line. Ran back to the KHL.
No freaking way we want that. LOL

Agreed
That’s why i said i don’t really like what NyR has to offer - jdfitz77
I hate what they have. But if it was them and we can't get Laffy Taffy
Schneider
unprotected 1st next year
forward prospect / unprotected 2023
cap dumps

Seems like he’s an untouchable for them though
And it’s not like he lit the league on fire last year
I’m assuming Kakko would be the top piece we get back from NyR
And i like those guys above you mentioned more - jdfitz77

What they have to offer is different than what they are offering.
They could offer Lafreniere and Shesterkin and two unprotected firsts and I am sure we would all be pretty pleased. And that doesn't even touch Kakko or their best minor league players. It's just that the offers we are hearing are...well, terrible.

Kakko for being a 2nd overall pick has done literally nothing the last 2 seasons. His rookie year .... you could say he was truly terrible.
Last year was mehhhh
He has shown no flashes of anyhing.
If I am giving eichel away to the rangers ...... i am not taking on a massive question mark prospect who has shown literally nothing at the NHL level.
Rossi - I have the same issue with him since he has a heart issue.
Zegras byfield and I am missing someone are much better prospects to get in return for eichel. |

If those guys are being acquired just for Cap purposes & to flip,
then there’s gotta be MUCH more value added to a NyR offer
And it’s gotta start with high end pieces imo - jdfitz77
There's a fine line between jacking up a price for useful veterans versus Loui Eriksson cap dumps. Yes Kevyn views veterans as negative value to this roster, but if they have trade value league wide, the Sabres need to take that into consideration, and should likely seek out a third team to see if they're interested in taking the flipped veterans. |

He started the 20-21 season in the KHL (like many developmental guys, signed oversees) and finished the season with the Rangers. I don't think there's any red flags here. I think everyone else figured out that he came to America a year too soon.
That being said, he's no centerpiece to a deal.

I disagree. Rangers have the ability to offer a good trade with Kaako involved. I don't know if Kevyn is fine acquiring a bunch of top 6/top 4 talents, or needs one potential top C and lesser guys. Kaako Kravtsov Lundkvist 1st is fine. |

I don't mind this, but getting Chytil squeezed in there would be nice.
Kaako, Chytil, Lundkvist, 1st any (mild) retention or dump and Kravtzov comes too. I'm not a huge Kravtzov guy, he hasn't scored over a .5 ppg in any league since the MHL. For reference, we just drafted 3 guys who accomplished this feat as well. We'll see. |

Let's see if our Russians can break the mold. Getting Kravtsov would be a nice vet for the Rooskies to have eventually. Presuming he's here in 3-4 years. |

It's the new NHL. If you're a big and mobile D they just assume you are good. Everyone is in a rush to get one. It really makes you wonder what Risto will get next year. |

I'm just saying he's not this great piece. And the fact that some Rangers fans have touted him as a nearly untouchable piece is laughable. That's like calling Mittelstadt and untouchable in an Eichel trade. (frank), I wouldn't trade Mitts straight up for Kravtzov.
I get the Russian influence. But you don't trade Eichel so some 22 YO second rounders feel at home in 5 years. |

I think Strome is a nice piece and still young enough that he could stick around. I don't know that I'd call him a "throw-in" so much as I'd simply agree that Georgiev and Strome needs Kakko or Kravtsov added to even discuss Eichel. Even then I think you still have to include next years first round pick.
Kakko, 1st, Strome, and Georgiev would be my starting point and I wouldn't even pick up the phone otherwise if I'm Adams. - mochoson
Strome may be a 'nice piece' and he might 'stick around', but he's going to be a 29 year old UFA.
Putting aside the idea of extending a 29 year old to a long term not being a great idea, what do you think the chances are that Strome would want to sign an extension with Buffalo? 10%? 5%?
For the reasons above, that's why Strome is rightly considered a throw in from the Sabres perspective.
Weren't there rumors of the Rangers trying to trade Strome to a team with multiple firsts so the Rangers would have another 21 1st to trade for Eichel?
Makes sense why. |

I see it as this way. Adam’s saw Botterill make a horrible trade with Oreilly which ultimately led to his firing. If he does the same with Jack it will be a similar fate.
He will hold on to Jack forcing him to play for 5 years before taking an Oreilly deal. It’s gonna be a haul he can at least say he broke even on or Jack can play here for 5 years. Even him sitting is a better win for Adam’s over trading him for scraps. You can’t recover from that. Jack sitting at least shows to GMs he’s not gonna take those scraps. |
