I like Olympic hockey but don’t like the disruption & crammed & longer season plus potential injuries. I get it it promotes the league but how much globally does it actual do? - Nighthawk
I was at the last olympics and went to a few games.....it was kinda lame. Everyone wants to se best vs best. Although, I'm sure it helped hockey in Germany. It sucks for NHL schedule but man, Olympic hockey was lame without the NHL being apart of it.

So on earlier posts last blog trading Hughes…
Sign him to a 2yr bridge & see how Bones progresses. If he does very good then Hughes could be better traded at that time. He’ll have an RFA year left with arb rights. Go for a top 4 RHD then. - Nighthawk
I would rather they move on from him asap. |

Trading Hughes now…
Current RHD are Myers Hamonic Poolman. All under contract for 2yrs or longer. LHD depth without Hughes is OEL Bones OJ.
Forwards look solid & deep all things considered. In goal the same. A top 2 RHD would be ideal but necessitates trading a RHD also.
RHD I’d target…
Pesce, Pulock off the top of my head. So trading Hughes would have a domino effect of some kind being it’s not a simple trade being another move(s) probably happens. The TDL could be interesting if sellers but I don’t wish for us to be a lotto team. |

I expect Hughes to rebound back to rookie form, Shaw will help him, OEL-Poolman duo brought in to play tough matchups. Schenn looked good with him in the past, Hamonic and Hughes should also continue to develop more chemistry. |

Thanks Carol,
Like you, I'm really interested in finding out just how divided the crowd is (both at Climate Pledge Arena and Rogers Arena) when the Kraken and Canucks play each other. I'd love if we could get a fan rivalry on the scale/prestige of a Battle of Alberta or Toronto/Ottawa, Montreal/Boston, NYR/NYI et al. |

You realize he was bad defensively in his 1st season, but was covered by one of the best defensive defensemen in the game.

Not uncommon for a young offensive dman at all. I expect a nice leap in his overall play this year with more experience and better coaching. |

The Rangers and Devils have some players I wouldn't mind having, but I would see if the Islanderswould be interested in Hughes for Dobson trade. |

I’m for keeping Hughes & writing off last season & all it brung.
It’ll be OEL Myers top pairing imo.
Playing 2nd pairing & the PP1 is more suitable for him. Hamonic will be the key i that dynamic.
3rd pairing Bones Poolman. I really this potential & ability.
OJ will rotate in as Bones settles in & if injuries. Schenn purely depth. |

It'll be fun having a true regional rival instead of being the 3rd wheel in Western Canada |

I expect him to continue getting crushed, as teams have figured out how he plays and will continue to be predictable. |

Plenty of options, the key will be to determine which dmen have chemistry |

Sam Girard is his comparable and he signed last off-season for 5 million per. |

I’d hold out for more than straight up.
Ty Smith+
Pulock/3rd
Lundkvist/Kaako for Hughes/Pearson
Rough quick ideas

5-6/6m works for me if no bridge.
Hughes stood out in the PO’s. |

I don't agree. I think he can work on a team that is positionally and defensively sound.
Obviously, this hasn't been the case here the last couple of seasons (and may never be) but his deficiencies are magnified on a team that plays to his weaknesses.
A player like Torey Krug looks better than he is because he's in a great spot for his talent. Just like QH looks worse because of his situation.
All that to say that you're not necessarily wrong but the team needs to improve as much as QH does defensively. |

Agree to disagree then. I'm in the camp that believes a 21 year old dman has plenty of room for improvement. If he was 24 or 25 with 5 full seasons under his belt then I'd agree that he is what he is at this point. |

There's a reason why Tanev and Adam Larsson were tops in defensive WAR in the league. Over half the D in the league suck at defence. What half the league doesn't do is score at over half a point per game. QB a PP with great efficiency.
