There's a reason why Tanev and Adam Larsson were tops in defensive WAR in the league. Over half the D in the league suck at defence. What half the league doesn't do is score at over half a point per game. QB a PP with great efficiency.

If OEL reinvents himself & gets over his knee injury that has hindered his play Hughes will be fine on the 2nd pair & PP1. His TOI will reflect how the D has improved or not. Team D is often forgotten & where Shaw will help. The PP & PK have to improve to make for a successful season.

The cap is one thing but GM’s are the other problem. Biggest issue is the inequality of state taxes of different markets that should be studied & applied to the next CBA. It’s not an easy task so I suggest signing bonuses be adjusted in some form to offset the imbalance. Something like a cap within the cap.
