And here we are again... back to having to do dumb poop to stay cap compliant.

Fun.

I’m def ok with what fletch has done precisely because he hasn’t traded away tons of picks and prospects. He did have to trade a guy who didn’t want to be here, a really solid young dman who I think will develop in to a very good player in Myers, and a high pick in a crap shoot draft.

Part of the plan is to provide vet support to the young core with the hopes that they set back on the development path they were on in 2020.

Also, I don’t mind the hart contract even though it’s a bit more than expected. That’s prob because it’s for 3 years. Darren pang talked about it on nhl network and he believes that the team recognizes hart has great technique and attitude and they expect him to rebound. He also noted that many young tenders have had the same ups and downs as hart as I’ve been saying over and over. Price and others he mentioned.

Looking ahead to next year both Giroux and Couturier are UFAs. With Giroux currently at $8.275M and Couturier at $4.333M they will both have major implications on the Cap.
Where do you see these negotiations going? I would have thought Couturier would certainly command a higher salary. I am not convinced that Giroux would command a pay increase.
Do you see the Flyers trying to keep both players? Can they afford both players?

About 3 games in a Philly fan will Gilooly Martin Jones and there's your LTIR cushion. That said, doesn't Farabee need an extension next offseason? So space will have to clear at some point anyway. JVR isn't so bad a floor team wouldn't take him without an astronimcal ask IMO, if it came down to it.

Bill , the current roster has 14 forwards. They are going to carry only 13 during the season. So sending someone like Cates to the AHL will add almost another Mil to the 4.03 cap space. I don’t think Sanheim puts them over that.

Allison is not included in that capfriendly list.

Remove Cates and Laczynski, add Allison, and that gives them a little over 4.9 of cap space.

Interesting position for the Flyers….but again we are only in August. It’s not like Fletcher didn’t have an idea of the #s he would eventually have to pay Sanheim and Hart. As Bill pointed out the Flyers have a bunch of options. I’m pretty sure Fletcher has a plan….we just aren’t privy to it.

Fletch has to be hoping for another deal. Recoup a draft pick or two and unload a contract to create more cap space. I think he feels set with the forward group even though we have questions about 3C and a sniper (winger). I think we are set at wing. It would be nice to unload before camp but there really is no rush.

As long as we are utilizing JVR properly (getting him top 9 minutes with a center that can feed him and an opportunity on PP1) I think we will get 30 goals out of him. He's unlikely to be able to create his own goal scoring opportunities so he needs a linemate that can facilitate opportunities for him. It might also make him a more attractive trade piece entering the final year of his deal.

Dont see JVR getting 30 goals. Hasn't hit or "paced" to that number since coming back to the flyers. Had 7 goals in the last 38 games last season. Not a good trend.

Training camp will flush out which of those players stay or go. Regardless of which ones start in the AHL, they have enough cap space to start the season without trades or LTIR contracts.

Couts is the Flyers best player. He is going to get paid. Even with the cap only going up a million next year, he’s still in line for a deserved raise. G is an interesting one. I can’t see him getting much less then 6. They will also have to re up Risto and that # may depend on how he plays this year. Obviously JVR is a big ticket guy that probably won’t survive after this year….but this early on, who really knows….anything can happen.

I don't think JVR gets 30 goals. Somewhere around the 20 goal mark with a high side of 25 if he has a really good season.

To be fair though JVR did play a better all around game last year. But yes I agree, he needs to score to be effective. 7 mill sitting on your 3rd line is tough in a hard cap world.

I think part of that is his usage. Not saying he needs top line minutes but we can't have him on the 4th line. He's a goal scorer. He needs to be in that role here. Plus he needs linemates to set him up. Hayes with JVR and Atkinson? I'd take that.

JVR's best years are when he had above 200 shots on goal. He needs ice time and a line that will get him those shots.

Another factor that needs to be considered on the cap is performance bonuses for players on ELC's. Luckily the Flyers have only two players that they have to worry about with that. Farabee and Allison.

No way in hell does Giroux get a pay increase from 8 mil+ a year!! He is slowing down and that is quite obvious and you don't pay a player for past performance. If he wants that kind of cash he can go elsewhere!!!

Nobody has said that Giroux will get a raise. In fact the opposite has been said. Giroux is still a really good player who I think is going to have a strong season.

seeing how the GM is a weak negotiator imo I dont see Giroux taking much of a decrease. Especially if he continues to put up points. Ex selke can pretty much write his own ticket if he re-ups with the flyers.

His all arund game did get better. Didn't help the team. He needs to score. You live with the other warts if he is doing that. At this juncture there is no need to try to redefine his game imo.

Comes down to usage and where the coaches slot him. Do you have faith in the coaches doing that?

Yes. Agreed. I am confident there is a plan. I am not too worried about winning the cap cup really. Sanheim will get his contract and they'll go from there.
