No, however he’s going to be a top 6 winger in the NHL |

Brings a lot of things to the table, notably size, smarts, stickhandling, has a heavy shot. Looks like a top 6 W, easily. |

How is that any different from "future considerations"? - atlsabsfan
The players felt they were experiencing greater difficulty in signing an extension with a team they were traded to due to the conditions that were being added to trades.
That's why that condition is no longer allowed. |

The NHL has the worst of any sport transaction process.
Rarely is a good player in UFA.
Hardly is there a good UFA signing.
RFAs are never offer sheeted.
It takes 6 months to construct a Frolik for a 4th trade.
Its so embarrassingly bad.
Look at how many stara were traded in the NBA in the last 3 weeks
The MLB just had its best trade deadline ever.
NFL players are constantly changing teams.
NHL... crickets.

players doing personal public relations is nothing new...my guess is that he checked out, told them so and therefore was traded for a lackluster return - Michael Pachla
There's certainly a chance. I just don't see reason for the comments about wanting to resign and just not given a long term offer. Just doesn't seem like it was really needed there, he could have just easily said he didn't want to go through a rebuild...he'd said that to us directly. |

Eh, not really.
There are good UFA’s that are 24 years old like Curtis Samuel and probably JuJu this offseason |

Yeah, was just taken what 89 said and adding him as a piece to a Calgary trade for Eichel. |

We got a fair to good deal in return for Sam.
With our soft-rebuild, Sam and agent wanted to be on a talent laden team in order to sign short deal and pad his stats, then back home on long term deal to go to Western Canada.
If we don't execute trade Samson would've went to Arbitration, Awarded 7+ for one yr, then leave at end of season for nothing.
It can be argued we "Should've" signed Sam to a long term deal but he was producing as a solid 2nd line winger. This past yr he was put in the most opportunistic position, Centering Line 1, PP1, and had his best pts season. I love Sam as player, he plays near the net and has a knack for tips, and tap ins, he's not FAST, not Sniper, doesn't create space, he has other very valuable qualities that every team needs but with our Soft rebuild it just didn't fit IMO.
3 Years and 6.5 for Sam is such a great friggen deal. - ImThatGuy

His shooting has been a plus for at least a couple of seasons now, and definitely was last season.
He's turned into a quality shooter. |

pick 28 and a late 7th round pick is a pathetic return for a guy that was 11th in goal scoring last season, any way to slice it |

I don't see a 7th rounder in the deal?
I see a top goalie prospect though
Can't ask for to much when the guys going to just go to arb and leave after the 1 year deal he gets.
