Playoff bound, cup contending teams? I doubt it.
I don't need the trade to define Adams as a GM, but the return is terrible.
They're going to end up with a Tage Thompson/Ryan Johnson leve draft pick plus an undersized 7th round goalie for a former 2nd overall consistently really good player. Brutal - sbroads24
I mean Sam was gonna Arb us and walk to UFA regardless.
I’m not saying I’m thrilled with the return either but there is absolutely no way to know what we would have gotten at the deadline.
Sam has also been relatively healthy is whole tenure here, if this is the year he was going to get hurt then he walks for nothing like McCabe then what ?
The fact he was traded to a division rival in Florida I think says a lot to the fact that it was the best offer that came across KAGM’s desk and he took it.

Isn't it the general consensus around here that Adams did well to get what he did, as Sam was an RFA ? Getting a # 1 pick and Devon Levi is pretty good, all things considered. I think you're wrong - I wouldn't say he whiffed on it. We got what was pretty much expected for Sam.
I think you're somewhat blinded by the absolute steal for the Risto trade. Of course the next trade wasn't going to be THAT good...that was highway robbery.
In conclusion, you're wrong. Please respond with : "You are right...I was wrong with my assessment of the trade. I apologize".
Thank you. - kritter65
if we are lucky
in 5 years we got another enroth and paille for the trade

IMO, Sam will be missed on this team. Guy played on a shatty teams, produced solid numbers every year and never opened his mouth.

I didn't say it wouldn't. I meant that's a poor excuse. The odds are slim
And Reinhart should be worth a lot more than Buchnevich. Draft status, consistency, positional flexibility. - sbroads24
No one is making an excuse, it's hedging the bet. More then likely he doesn't get hurt. If he does, pending severity, you do get nothing, or at best a diminished return on what we already got. Draft status means nothing 7 years into your career. Teams aren't giving Yakupov more looks because he went 1st overall, and Girgs and VO, a first and seventh rounder, got very similar contracts. The other two, sure, hence why he got a better pick, and I'd take that c level goalie prospect 100/100 over Blais. |

so serious question here, Does Jack get traded this year? I am leaning more and more to the NO side. I just don't think teams are offering what KA wants.
If that is the case do we wait until training camp for Jack to Have his surgery, then let him recover until the start of the new year, Let him play the rest of the year until the TDL then dump him to the highest bidder?

6 foot goalies struggle
there is a reason levi went in the 7th rd
I mean it was a great story for him at the world jrs of course but he is still way behind 6k and Portillo on our goalie prospect list
and picking the next Brendan Gaunce in 2022 with the 25th pick does nothing for me
it was selling to move, not selling at market value |

Yeah this just couldn’t be further from the truth. It always matters.
Teams always value former high picks more
Alex Galchenyuk has been given chances by 4 different teams now.
Who has more value on the trade market? 8th overall pick Casey Mittelstadt who’s proven almost nothing or former 5th round pick Anders Bjork who was a throw in to make money work? They’ve produced relatively the same
I’d wager Mittelstadt is worth a lot more to teams who may have scouted and liked him 4 years ago |

Galchenyuk has been traded for peanuts... Prolly a bad example to use on why draft picks matter in trades.
If .39 and .29 plus 3 years age difference is the same, I don't know what to tell you. |

you can make the case that the flames got a better return for bennett
Emil Heineman alone may be a better nhl player than levi and our late first from the panthers
and the flames got a second rd pick as well |

You can't just say it won't happen. Just like no one can say it would.
With what Buch got for NYR, it looks better in comparison, but still not great. The org bungled Sam from the very beginning, and did so every step of the way. I'm sure he's glad to get out, and who would blame him. Time to turn the page. The returns for Risto, and Sam, in totality, was good overall. 2 first, a second, a warm body and an intriguing prospect, before both went down I think all would have been happy with this. - SDSabre
There are multiple things at play with Reinhart.
He wanted to stay long term until he found out Ralph's grand plan when they signed Hall last offseason, which was to extend Hall to a long term deal and trade Reinhart. Sam had enough of the dysfunction at that point and was done.
Overall, it would've been a cagey move by Adams to sign Reinhart to a one or two year deal and then immediately trade him while retaining 50%, but a lot would have had to gone right for that to have worked for there even to be a better chance at a greater return then they got.
Bottom line: Adams and the org. want all 3 of Ristolainen, Reinhart, and Eichel gone.
Huge difference is Adams will get destroyed if he takes a bath on an Eichel return while not many are going to crush him on the Reinhart return.
On the Ristolainen trade, we all lauded Adams for the return he got, but did he really do anything special if multiple teams were willing to part with a 1st round pick, as has been reported? |

Yet still given opportunity after opportunity because he was a high draft pick
Do you think draft status didn’t matter in both of Seth Jones’s trades?
If he wasn’t the 4th overall pick, first defensemen taken, does he get Ryan Johansen back (who was great at the time) or does he get back the huge return he just got after a horrible season? |

he got pick 14 though, not just a first rd pick
how many first rd picks have teams got in moves like this and it ends up being pick 26-31 overall

I was thinking he would make a great pairing was Henri jokiharju. I really like Henry's ability but I think he would have been way better if he had had a responsible defensive defenseman as his pair. Kind of like the way Rasmus dahlin said he loved playing with Will Borgen because he covered his ass when he did a little too much. As much as many friends will say how can you put Henry on the 3rd pair I think he could benefit from it. At least to start the season. For as far as Henry was concerned it seemed like every time the puck went in the nut through February Henry was standing there looking but dazzled on what just happened. Most people forget Henry is the same age as Samuelson |

How about his, draft position matters more early on (things that you keep describing) but the further you get away from the draft, it doesn't matter as much. Boston would have done a Pastrnak for Reinhart swap one for one the year they were drafted I assume. Probably year 2 as well. They sure wouldn't later on. There are examples on both sides of this, but not many in year 7/8 of your careers.
As far as Jones, him and RyJo were both good when they were traded for each other. It was lauded as a hockey trade by many.
A bad trade by Chi doesn't make your argument, as there are two things: He had been really good up until then, and defense were at a premium for some reason (RHD specifically).
Now that I've answered you about Jones, and maybe given you a slight tally if that makes you feel good, explain why number 1 overall pick Nail Yakupov can't get an NHL gig and couldn't 6 years after being drafted. |

Yet you keep pegging Fla as a lock to make that pick like 28.. Playoff team? Yeah. They still will have to go through the Lightning and a couple other juggernauts in the East for that to happen. |

Just like we don't know if Portillo will turn out or if UPL takes the next step. Just cause Levi was a 7th rnd pick doesn't mean Sh!t right know he could end up being the best goalie in are system. Ullmark was a 6th round pick. |
