yes i believe it was that year.. i dont think any of them lasted much more than another season as a back up in the NHL

I like Dak and Wilson a couple rounds later than Kyler/Allen go as well.

My concern is what happened with Lamar Jackson. He basically had a similarly dominant season and the follow up just wasn't as good. His elite year, everything went right and it was just hard to replicate that the following year, especially after defenses adjusted.

Not saying that will happen to Allen, but I just feel like he needs to repeat last year to bring value at where he's being taken. It's the same reason I am skeptical taking Davante Adams with the 7th overall pick...last year was so special and elite that it's tough seeing someone replicate it.

Not a popular take, I'm sure, but I feel that Lehner and Okposo are 2 examples of players who have abused or exploited the NHL's "guaranteed contract" dynamic. Lehner absolutely should not have played for us and collect millions while battling substance abuse and mental health issues, and same for Mr. Potato Head Okposo...the guy's melon is one shake away from being an actual melon, yet he barely showed up, played extremely poorly while hurt for what, 3 years and running?, and collected millions.

The team sure did allow this to happen, but as a fan I believe they both should have had a year wiped off their contracts while they sat out and got better, then resume the term of their contracts when they begin to play at least close to 100% of their capacities.

Okposo definitely deserves his pay. Not his fault his melon isn't what it used to be. And he still gets out there and plays hard and played real well under granato last year.

Lehner is a different story. In ANY sport you should not be paid atleast in full if you have substance abuse. Worse that he was showing up to work absolutely hammered. I'd be fired on the spot.

Guaranteed contracts will never change in the NHL. Players wouldn't allow it.
