Joe Thornton signs one year in Fla for $750k
I would have preferred him over Thompson. |

Very well written tribute to your colleague and friend Bill. Sorry for your loss. Living outside the Philadelphia market, I didn't get a chance to read Jay's column very often, but the chances I did, I thoroughly enjoyed.
People my age who have Parents in their early 70's this hits home that they won't be around forever. Every day is a gift. |

Thornton 20 points in 44 games, Thompson 5 points in 44 games. Somehow Thompson gets 800K, while Thornton gets 750k. |

Yeah. Someone else brought up brassard the other day. Would even take him. Was told he is washed but he even had 20 points last year with a terrible team. Remember how he performed in the playoffs for the isles this time last year. |

He surely did not want to play in Philadelphia. No explanation necessary.

Well, to be fair, 750k in Florida is worth significantly more than 800k in Philly. |

Who cares. Why is the substantially lesser player getting paid more? |

Thornton likely wants to play for a team that he views as a contender. Flyers aren't looking for points from that spot. They want a defensive checking center who can help the PK. That's not Thornton. |

Ryan Donato as 3C for the same $ and we could have used a kid to fill 4C

Since I had left the Philly area in 1977, much of the news before the internet was unavailable and so too the games.
A friend allowed me to borrow 'Full Spectrum'. He said it would fill in a lot of blanks. It did. That book is not short. I finished it over a weekend.
That IS my critical review.
Thanks for the work, Mr. Greenberg.
May your legacy be well noted and your descendants prosper.

Not arguing your reasoning here. Just pointing out that Philly wanted a seasoned vet that can PK and keep the puck out of the net (seems like both nets. Haha). Someone hard to play against. They don’t want a kid on the 4th line if they can help it.
Thompson wins face offs, is physical (hard to play against). Is solid on the PK. And while he doesn’t get involved in offense that much teams don’t seem to score against him much. In the last 10 seasons he is pretty much a 0 in the plus minus (a couple in the plus side). He is well liked in the locker room and has some grit.
I think the big factor is that he was willing to accept an offer from Philly. Thornton or Donato may have not even been an option. |

Ryan Donato is not a capable 3rd line center.

Not a trick question. Where is the rush for the league to sign Brassard?

I knew glendening was probable sought after. I was hoping we would’ve seen bellemare make his return. But good for him for getting two year. Tampa trying to three peat |
