Understood and agree. There seems to be two approaches when signing players.

When it comes to JB signing UFA’s I cannot defend him but they usually are not bargains. Term would be my big knock. Given the point where the rebuild was I understand his rationale. JB started with trading picks to fill holes & the age gap. As picks made the team he moved onto UFA’s. Those 2 stages went very poorly. Drafting has saved his ass & allowed trading to be a lil easier finding the right pieces. Any team in a rebuild has a rough time & different sets of circumstances. JB has been fortunate the rope he’s been given has been long. Now it’s a noose & how this season goes decides if he wears it or delays it or survives.

Hopefully we are past the need to entice players & the roster makes us a good destination in the future.

On Pod staying in Russia & us waiting 2 years it allows us to slide his ELC those 2 more years. Drafting Euros NCAA prospects has its advantages. Look forward to McDonough shining in a leading role in college. Others like Truscott & Zlodeyev etc as well. The longer development time is a boon if any can make the leap in upcoming years. JB isn’t like some would like him to be percieved.

Because, as good as those deals were, it doesn’t make up for the absolute idiocy of other contracts he’s handed out. It seems that JB has no problem handing out big money for lesser talent and yet try to penny-pinch on his core players.
