Performance bonuses aren’t an issue as only ELC and 35+ players are eligible. I’m not sure what the rules are around how much signing bonus vs salary is allowed over the life of the contract, but there are complex rules about how much the salary can change from one year to the next.

I don’t imagine that anything nefarious is going on, just each side trying to get the best for their client.
