Those who think Elias and Quinn are worth close to 10 million in salary, please pass what you are smoking, that is some good shit.

Is 8 close to 10? I'd go 8x8 for both without blinking. Sports salaries go up, that's how it works, man. They're projecting future value.

If you're talking a bridge deal then more like 3x6 would be fair imo.

I did. Drance’s tweet confused me… “No trade protection on the contract”

At first glance it could mean two things as in:

“No trade” protection on contract.

or

No “trade protection” on contract.

I’ve never liked Twitter journalists.

Done. Laying a giant turd like that with the first post is an embarrassment to us all.

I guess if you think Hughes is comparable to Alex Pietrangelo and not a comparable to players like Sam Girard, Torrey Krug and Tyson Barrie, all 3 questionable defensively, then I don't really know what to say.

Thanks C

@Bloated

There is no NTC on JD

Yeah, I see my error now. Went to Cap Friendly and looked for myself. I’m glad. Hate those clauses and I hope they are removed during the next CBA.

the comparables you suggest are good for right now, but you also have to consider what stage in their careers those players are at. Quinn is already scoring points like Krug in his early 20s. So you're buying UFA years at a premium NOW for a savings LATER.

If they bridge both Quinn and Petey and they continue to ascend, then we will be priced out.

I agree with Carol (read the blog, back pat...)

Quinn Hughes' best comparables are Cale Makar and Miro Heiskanen. Heiskanen's only three months older than Hughes, but he was drafted a year earlier and, thus, has 76 more games on his resume. Despite that, it's Hughes who has more points — 97, compared to 95 for Heiskanen.

Some might argue that Heiskanen is a better all-round defender, but point production counts for a lot in contact negotiations. Heiskanen signed in July for eight years at an AAV of $8.45 million

I see Hughes going for around 8 years at 8.5m. I'm good with that.

I expected him to take a step back last year (he did).
I think he'll take a step forward this year. In time, he'll get a better partner than Hamonic and thrive.

If Quinn continues to be brutal defensively and extremely fun to play against, then the Canucks will have overpaid, for a player that is extremely one dimensional.

Kid is 21.
He'll continue to develop.
Give him a decent partner and allow him to grow.

I have no problem with NTC’s if contract costs are lower. Players liking where they live or security for family reasons is give & take. Long terms like 6-8yrs I want more flexibility being nobody knows that far into the future.

NMC’s I don’t like.

Thanks Carol.

Strongly disagree with you on your comparable of Heiskanen and Makar.

Sam Girard is more likely a better comparable.
Also, a much better defenseman, Adam Pelech, signed for around 6 million per.

I think it is best for the organization, if they move on from Hughes.

- Reubenkincade

Sorry Reuby but Girard sucks in comparison. Dahlin is a better comparison.

The kid is pretty predictable and the other teams have easily started to expose his many weaknesses.
He is fun to play against.

The whole team was fun to play against.
Many changes have been made to address this.

A sophomore slump is not unique to Hughes.
It was predictable that he'd have a down year and he'll bounce back this year.
Book it.

Not to worry, NJ will always have interest in him if the poop hits the fan.

It will be like Carolina and the Staal brothers.

Sure but he doesn’t get paid to develop. Bridge deal makes more sense if he wants the big pay day like others mentioned. He has shown nothing in his potential to be better defensively.

Not a fan of JB trading with Lou.
Lou would take JB to the cleaners.
