I'd rather lock up petey long term and go bridge with Hughes. The benchmark for defenseman contracts right now is ridiculous. I'd rather go 8 on petey and 3 on Hughes. - Codes1087

I was sarcastically responding from another morons comment... Like trying to compare a contract signed 4 years ago.... Just a complete lack of understanding of how this poop works. - noisewater
Yeah, just stupid picking a contract signed 4 years ago when discussing future growth. Easier to blindly speculate how much one signed now might be worth in 4 years. Just sheer brilliance on your part really.

You can't compare Herman's contract signed 4 years ago which he has OBVIOUSLY outperformed when trying to value Quinn Hughes deal. Look at comparables of other young, up and coming d-men that have been signed in the last year.
All of us are just flapping our (frank)ing gums at the end of the day anyways... |

So u wanna overpay an offense specialist with horrible d that needs a partner to prop him up. Makar and heiskanin don't need that. And then lose Petey because we won't have cap for him after that over pay. Solid move |

Rathbone making Hughes expendable.... HAHAHA.
Thanks, needed a good chuckle. - noisewater
Funny if you took it as Bones is Hughes equivalent. I’m pretty confident in Bones being more than capable on offence & probably end up better defensively. Adding to that Hughes &/or Bones are best suited in a 2nd pairing. 1st pairing being better at shutdown. That is a work in progress. 2nd pair D are not worth 7m+ so Bones will more likely be cheaper & Hughes over priced. |

It's got nothing to do with what I want.
It's what I expect he'll sign for, given the current market.

👍👍
The D benchmarks are more to do with more top young D are coming off ELC’s. Hughes isn’t top 10 & shouldn’t get paid as one. |

I would not lock in Hughes long term if I had all the cap space in the world. I need to see more first. - VANTEL

No I get it from tracking him since high school & growth curve he has been on. He fit in quite nicely on his audition & I’m high on him. Good skill set & brains. |

Hmmm, I think Hughes offers much more offensively than Rathbone. I've seen nothing to suggest either is sound defensively. Unfortunately, on D contracts you pay for offence. I'd like it to be shorter deal, not a matching deal. I don't have confidence it will be either. |

I'll also add we'll also question how good Hughes is defensively until the deal is signed. |

Agree pay for offence but only to a point when D isn’t good enough. Barrie found that out & for a good reason. Offensive only D are not #1 D & shouldn’t get paid like 1. Some ppl would say they are very good #3. |

Don't care what Benning pays them as long as they are there for start of camp.
Team can't afford the distraction or delay.
