If Strome wants better/more chances at center, then he needs to show that he is better than the other available options. Wasn't everyone fawning over him during the "return-to-play" practices, and then when the lights came on he was virtually invisible (3 its in 9 games). He's 6'3", 200lbs with really good hockey sense and good hands, who does not produce. That's on him. It's not like they haven't given him ample opportunity with solid line mates. poop or get off the pot. It get that he is still pretty young, but if he ever voices any displeasure, it should be on himself. - Chunk
Idk what else was said at the end of the season but the quotes I saw from him seemed more indignant at his situation vs a guy kind of reflecting and realizing he for the most part pissed away a golden opportunity to seize a pivot role.
Missing from his quotes were "I have a lot of work to do this summer." |

Just wondering, how does the NHL allow a trade to be made when a team does not want a player in the trade? And where is the Union on this? Wouldn't they be backing the player, forcing the team to take him? Sorry, but this seems like a Bettman deal, where he is helping out Vegas. - powerenforcer
It's like when they trade for "future considerations". There was an explanation a couple days after the trade was made saying that it was simply to make the roster numbers work. From that explanation, it seemed like it was kissed off by the teams, the league and the PA. It still sucks for the player, but I'm not sure what else can be done. I'm sure if he has a case, it's been brought to the PA. |

That is true and he said as much that for a little while he was excited for a new opportunity until he heard that the Knights dont want nothing to do with him. Major deflation there for a young guy. - FeatheredFinn
Yes, not a good situation for the young guy, but many people with bigger issues than his in this world. Hopefully he finds a team to play for so he can follow his dream. |

In other sports the union does not cover minor leagues probably the same in hockey? |

A mid round pick and a prospect that will never see the NHL.
Individually:
Strome - a 3rd or 4th round pick or b level prospect
Subban - a 5th or 6th round pick
Nylander - a 3rd or 4th round pick or a similar level prospect as Nylander that has had a couple of chances in the NHL and needs a change of scenery (This is if he skates well in camp and seems to be healthy. I doubt they can move him before they see him play in camp.)

Well, the Hawks traded him to Vegas, and Vegas doesn’t want him, so he should be blaming Vegas as well, not just the Hawks. - Angotti
The Hawks don't owe him anything just like your employer when they get rid of you. |

Subban can be had for nothing when they send him down.

Does anybody know will there be a taxi squad this season because teams are going to need it? Covid will rear it's ugly head at all levels of hockey. |

But I believe there is a pecking order. So a lower ranked could take him before a higher ranked team. So there is some risk to waiting until he is on waivers. |

Haven't heard but they are not letting NHL players play in Olympic qualifier games

Hindsight isn't really worth much but if you go back and look at the list of teammates Strome had in his 3-1/2 years of playing junior hockey for the Erie Otters a bunch of familiar names pop up:
Debrincat, McDavid, Eric Cernak, Warren Foegele, Connor Brown, Adam Pelech, Anthony Cirelli, Travis Dermott, A. Burakovsky.
All of these guys have accomplished something pretty good as pros and, like Strome, are now on the edge of the prime of their careers age wise. Dylan's accomplishments by comparision so far - not very much I say. His claim to fame is being a 3rd overall pick. Since then not much and no signs of developing into anything more than a journeyman. |

Hey Scott! I'm not sure what a return would be. I wouldn't expect too much. The ideal scenario would be a 2nd rounder or a solid prospect yet to turn pro. There's a logjam of players on the Hawks as it is so another roster player would complicate things again. - Tyler Cameron
What about packaging strome and beaudin for a better return or strome and subban. Imo whatever teams lose out on eichel will possibly look at strome one year left and affordable contract. |

A possibility, but I'm keeping Beaudin if I'm Stan. He seemed to take a huge step last offseason. I'm curious to see if he takes another step this year. |

I agree. While he made allot of mistakes last season, all can be corrected. And let’s face it, he didn’t belong nor was he ready for the NHL. I like his skating, his play with the puck even if he was a bit of a riverboat gambler. But what I liked best was his confidence. Let him learn in the AHL. Let him make his mistakes over handling the puck and correct it. Unless there’s a trade that brings back a really good player or top end prospect I’d like to see the team keep him. |

His response was one of surprise. So either he wasn't listening to the coaches or the coaches were being to passive in delivering it.
Either way the message has been delivered and received, and many here want to trade him before his response to being an healthy scratch when he's had an entire off season to try and do something about it.
It's time to put up or adios amigo.

Gallant used Beaudin in all 8 games at the World Championships. Great experience for a kid like that. Like almost all young defenceman, he needs lots of ice time, competition against men and a league to learn in - like AHL Rockford for awhile.
The 'let the kids play' mantra doesn't work in most cases for Dmen in the NHL unless the player is Doughty, Bourque, Potvin, Pronger etc.
I believe in the "Rush 'em to Ruin 'em" thinking. The list of those guys is extremely long.
