You best get comfortable with Anderson and UPL, cause that's written in sharpie. You don't trade a UFA before the season starts.
Those propspects might be playing in the NHL this year. The Sabres are stuck with too many players and not enough salary. They almost need to trade for a dead body. And whatever vets they get, they probably want to ship them for 1sts and prospects anyway. - TheSabresTaco
I'm not trying to give them Anderson, I just figured a goalie would go the other way to replace quick. I'd prefer Anderson to quick tbh.
Throw in Dell or Tokarski if that's better |

I really doubt the Sabres take on any "vets" as cap dumps. It's a tradition around here and 1 of the biggest issues with the constant rebuild.
Getting the miserable vets is terrible for donnie.
Maybe paper moves, like retired contracts.... ltir
We need our coaches to be the leaders and teach this next group of players.
And I realize theres a cap floor.
Sabres retain Eichel salary, after the Olympics. Probably 3 million per year. Never wears the blue and gold again.

I would also be very disappointed if UPL is on this team. That boy needs Roch time in a big way |

I'm pushing all my internet chips in that UPL, if healthy and not traded, is on this roster opening night.

If you think it's going to be Tokarski and Anderson, where Anderson was specifically brought here to mentor UPL, well..
Iowa, ocean front.

I don't see Pegula paying Eichel 15M more to not play for Buffalo again. And if KA gets the ok from uncle Terry, that better be a terrific package exceeding what KA was asking for already. Eichel at 7M to a team is insane.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing. But it may be 40+ for Buffalo instead. |

I wonder what average fan attendance per game is going to look like at the conclusion of next season... KBC is going to be one quiet barn. |

Kid has 25 games of AHL experience and 4 games of NHL experience in his career. That would not be a wise move |

I think there's a ton of people who want to like a young team as soon a Jack is gone. Not saying we'll see a packed barn, but I'm someone who is more than ready to be a sappy optimist the moment Jack Eichle leaves or apologies to the fanbase for his conduct. |

Especially with what could happen this year. But I will say this the kid looked better in is NHL starts than he did playing in Rochester last year. |

The case for UPL in the NHL is that Carter Hart only had 18 AHL games before becoming a full-time NHLer, although the jury is still out on whether that was a good move or a cautionary tale |

If Carter Hart has "it", he will be fine. Getting into the NHL early might delay development, but it won't ruin it if you have the mental and physical traits to succeed. If he doesn't figure it out eventually, he never had what it takes in the first place.

There's something to be said for proper development
Ryan Miller had 160 AHL games after 3 years of college. Goalies need some room to grow |

Yeah I hear you. I will probably be the same way.
I forgot who it was in the last few seasons (former player I believe) but I remember someone saying playing in FNC (at the time) was like playing in a morgue. Anyone remember this/who said it? Don't even tell me it was Lehner. |

Right, and that room to grow might lead to better seasons in years 2-4 than if he wasn't afforded it, but eventually players figure it out. If they have "it", they will eventually succeed.

Miller during the lock out year was able to play against VERY high level of players in the AHL and that helped his career tremendously |

goalies are highly mental.. getting shelled for 6 goals every time you play in youur rookie year can ruin a player that has it... |

So I did some Eichel trade pondering and the roster ramifications. After trading Eichel, you'll be below the floor by 6,700,000, after signing all RFAs to their contract projections. You'll also be left with a roster of 14F, 7D and 2G, which adds up to 24, one over the limit.
I'm not sure what their plan is at center, which is woefully thin. What are you doing with Eakin and Hayden. I feel like Hayden was signed to be an enforcer here at a friendly Pegula price. Whatever, he probably stays on the bench half the year. Eakin is really the only other question mark. Are they forced to keep him? Can they try to pry a role playing center in the Eichel trade and send Eakin to Rochester to clear roster space? Probably.
So with Eichel gone, you're already at +1. And you need to take back probably 7M in salary. Is that one player? Two? Do the Sabres reach out a team like Chicago to take Andrew Shaw for a pick? Maybe 2 injured players? Cause you're probably grabbing at least 2 NHL players for Jack. Puts you at 26 bodies. I doubt the team wants even more salary back.
The logistics here seem really complicated. Do you trade Olofsson and or Roots and demote Eakin to hit the roster limit? Getting this done by the draft would have made this entirely easier. - TheSabresTaco
That’s actually 23 dude
I’d be ok taking Cap Dumps for picks, especially 1st rounders if possible
Not worried at all how the roster actually shapes up though-
seems like this is a “tank” year, even if they aren’t admitting it |

I think kA and uncle terry want to look smart with the eichel trade. The whole mceichel tank was clearly approved from the top down.
The pegula's need top talent in return. Save some face.
Paying his salary for a portion of this season (tdl after awesome healthy usa performance at the Olympics) , gives a team 5 playoff runs with eichel for:
20 games / we retain 1/2 at the deadline
1-1.5 million next year
7 helps the floor
7 helps the floor
7
7
We use some of the eichel capital to get rid of skimmer in 2 years when we need room. |
