Olympics and Jack and the NHL are fine and all but ya'll gonna keep acting like the COVID-pandemic isn't now becoming an epidemic?
The world has a better chance of locking down again than the NHL does of going to the Olympics... which are being held in... China. - Jet Jaguar BD

The Martian Chronicles is my favorite book. Best part is when FDR shoots himself in the future and a Martian finds his bullet in the past, and it creates a time paradox where JFK was the shooter. |

I'm a huge Ray Bradbury fan so I feel the need to tell everyone this is not accurate.
Phillip K. D!ck probably did write that manuscript though |

1st ror trade, he already had a team try and Rfa him.
Didnt Colorado have to match calgary?
Much better player than sam.
Coming off a season with 28 goals 64 points and then a decent season
Try hard , face off, defensive 1c center |

Sam coming off a 65 point season, a 60 point season pace, then a 37 goal 60 point season pace on a horrible team without Eichel.
Sure on the faceoffs.
Try hard? Sam was busting his ass during a truly horrific lost season while Eichel took his ball and went home.
O'Reilly is a better player on the Blues then Reinhart on the Sabres, but the gap wasn't as wide when it was the O'Reilly who was traded to the Sabres. |

Sam will probably end up around 65 points per season playing in Florida.
He might even make it to 70 points one season. They are a much better team all around and have a lot more offensive power in their top 6.
Hell he might put up 40 goals playing in front of the net on their power play because it won't work around one or two players like it did here.

I respect your opinion
Sam absolutely had a good season. He was a durable guy and made some skilled plays.
Ror is a top center in the nhl
Sam got traded in the division after a very good season for very little return.
You like the guy....

65 points - 30 on the pp, 6.5 million $ guy, maybe more
Good contract
Sam's year to year consistent and a safe bet.
Having a tough team around Sam is gonna give him some comfort he didnt have in buffalo.

Calgary signed him to an offersheet and had Colorado not matched he would have had to go through waivers and Calgary would have lost his for free.
I wouldn't take anything Calgary did at that time to heart...

If Sam was worth more than show me contracts then why didn't other teams give him offer sheets?
Regarding what you said they must have really wanted O'Reilly to take that risk while our beloved Sam couldn't get more than bridge, show me deals. The NHL hasn't been the most competent organization either.
"Prior to tendering the offer sheet for Ryan O'Reilly we, as a hockey operations department, examined whether there were any impediments to our successfully securing the services of the player including, but not limited to, his having played in the KHL after the start of the current NHL season," Calgary general manager Jay Feaster said in a statement.
"Our interpretation of the Article 13 transition rules governing restricted free agents ("RFA"), and the applicability of Article 13.23 under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement to such RFA's was, and continues to be, different than the NHL's current interpretation as articulated to us this morning. Moreover, throughout our discussions, the playerโs representative shared our interpretation and position with respect to the non-applicability of Article 13.23.
"While we were prepared to advance our position with the NHL, in light of Colorado's having matched the offer sheet it is now an academic point. As such, we will have no further comment on the matter, the player, or the offer sheet process." |

When was the last real NHL offer sheet signed?
Aho doesn't count because that contract was such a joke they did Carolina a solid by negotiating for them.
Teams just don't do offer sheets

Buffalo has a few strikes against them. Small market, not good weather, no real upside to living here. For a non Canadian team I believe we have to approach things differently. |

There is always an excuse as to why poor Sam didn't get one. O'Reilly did and was matched. It is silly arguing Sam is on his level.

I do yes but if he was sooo underpaid and soooo dominant a player as sooo many Sabres fans feel he would have been sent an offer sheet like the player he is soooo much better than - Ryan O'Reilly |
