Buffalo has a few strikes against them. Small market, not good weather, no real upside to living here. For a non Canadian team I believe we have to approach things differently. - joshs
It's all about winning.
People complained about the same thing with the Bills until we started winning, now everyone resigns and talks about how much they love it here. I don't think it's snowed any less and Buffalo is still a small market. Maybe they're still factors behind closed doors, but doesn't seem insurmountable. |

I do yes but if he was sooo underpaid and soooo dominant a player as sooo many Sabres fans feel he would have been sent an offer sheet like the player he is soooo much better than - Ryan O'Reilly - GilPerreault11
I don't think anyone said he's soooo much better than O'Reilly. Their impacts are similar, probably leaning Ryan's way. That doesn't mean he wasn't a dominant player and the lack of an offer sheet means zilch, that's all. A lot better players than RoR go unsheeted...is that a word? |

There is always an excuse as to why poor Sam didn't get one. O'Reilly did and was matched. It is silly arguing Sam is on his level. - GilPerreault11
The Flames did the offer sheet after O'Reilly had:
55 points in 81 games and then
20 points in 29 games
Let's not act like he was lighting the world on fire and it was 2 year deal where he would still be a RFA so basically gasp a Sam Reinhart bridge deal
Edit:
Actually it was 55 points in 81 games and the season before was 26 points in 74 games |

Absolutely agree that winning makes a huge difference. Iβm just saying that with all things being equal, what Buffalo is, might be the toughest sell in the NHL.

And Colorado matched because it obviously wasn't all about points with his game with them.
For most NHL fans from now on Sam is going to be what he was for most of his time in Buffalo pretty much an insignificant complimentary player. He had a good contract year which happens all the time. I won't miss him being the Sabres' top winger, others will. I won't miss much from this era and I won't advocate for anyone either. Risto got a bad rap but he got a good return so I'm glad they got a 13th pick overall and a 2nd and player. It's too bad the market, league didn't see Sam worth at least that.

that really didn't count
When the Colorado Avalanche quickly matched Calgary's offer sheet to Ryan O'Reilly on Thursday, they actually helped prevent a potentially costly situation for the Flames.
Calgary signed the 22-year-old center to a two-year $10 million offer sheet Thursday afternoon, and by evening the Avalanche had matched. As Chris Johnston of Rogers SportsNet first reported Friday morning, had the Avalanche not matched, the Flames would have yielded first- and third-round picks in the 2013 NHL Draft and O'Reilly would have had to be put on waivers.
Because O'Reilly played two games for Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League after the NHL season started, he would have been subject to the same provision that allowed the New York Islanders to claim Evgeni Nabokov after he signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings during the 2009-10 season.
"Prior to tendering the offer sheet for Ryan O'Reilly we, as a hockey operations department, examined whether there were any impediments to our successfully securing the services of the player including, but not limited to, his having played in the KHL after the start of the current NHL season," Calgary general manager Jay Feaster said in a statement.

But ,but ,but...
They let superstar Samson go within the division for futures.
If guy's are sick of playing in buffalo and already have given up completely in game situations for the Sabres, what kinda full effort would we expect out of them this season? Basically being held agaisnt their will. - Boss34
Agreed.
It may sound like I wanted him to stay here under those circumstances, but no. I was ready to trade him. But as usual, timing was against Buffalo with him as F's value declined.
I'm not expecting much this season, but suspect the effort will be there even if the skills are generally lacking. |

Hey, how are ya? Yeah, we went over that and I quoted the info and statement from Calgary and it would have been contested and the NHL is not the most competent organization either.
I wonder who will be more popular in Florida and more Valuable in the playoffs Sam or Sam Bennett? I guess we will wait and see. I just watched Cocaine Cowboys and I'll leave it at that. I wonder if Sam did too before he signed. |

Depends on if Sam Bennett takes another stupid penalty in a playoff game helping cost his team a crucial win. |

Eichel is probably getting good advice and doing his own thing.
Season ticket holders due date is approaching.
$15,850.00 bill sitting on my lap
πππππ
Sabres are willing to PAUSE your seats for a season with a 20% balance on your account.
Also renew will be February annually, not august from here on. Really turning the screws.
I'm probably going to pause 8 and keep a pair....
Blog suggestion: season ticket holder truckulance - Boss34
Why not
1-Pause yours
2-buy "as-you-go" for the games you want at $10 or $15 per game...4 x $15 x 41 $2,460 for 4 seats per game.
I think you need me to run you life, lol.

I'm good, I appreciate the offer. And your probably right economically in regards to the seats.
A few weeks ago I asked about holding over 4 seats and had that conversation with my rep.
Buy 4 and keep the rights to the other 6, Was my suggestion.
New policy just emailed at %20 .
I let them keep the remaining $1,000 on each count from the cancelled 8 games of the 2019 season.
I will be receiving $200 in Sabres bucks , $100 per account. Decent investment- 10% return over 18 months.
So they have almost enough to cover 8 rights.
I'm just gonna keep a pair of aisle in the 300. I'm sure I could sit anywhere for 30 of the 41 games for cheaper.
I like my seats, access in and out ect. Best seats in the entire arena for the price. 1375 each for a pair. $32.50 a game. |

Eichel does have a hard deadline to be traded before he can pick his destination himself.
If Minny, Vegas, Anaheim, donβt want to move the high end prospects needed to satisfy the trade why would they do it next offseason or at the trade deadline this year ?
The Sabres sold high on Reinhart as well, his value had never been higher yet we got what we got for him. If we wait till the deadline how much more would we have gotten for him ? Is it possible we may have gotten more ? Sure. Is it possible he would have gotten hurt and we got nothing ? Yes.
Welcome to a flat cap era where teams are prioritizing picks and prospects and donβt have the salary cap space to fit a Sam Reinhart. Especially when we are talking about the 2022 and 2023 draft classes which are going to be flooded with talent.
Iβm already confident in saying the player we draft with the Panthers pick will be on par, if not better than Isak Rosen - Pegullaville
So it seems your Risk Evaluation equation levels Possibilty and Probability as the same.
I would say
A) the probability of Sam getting hurt is rather significantly less than the possibility.
B) the probability of getting a better return at the TDL is rather significantly greater than the possibility.
When those two changes are factored in, it makes the move at the TDL a better move...although there is risk of injury, but it is low.
Furthermore, as soon as the 2021 draft choices were removed from contention...the urgency was also removed.
In summary, it is more likely he could have had a better return at the TDL.
Meh, whatever though. He gone. |
