not really worth the debate. Kisakov, 2022 1st, Levi, and whatever top picks and prospects Jack gets back all have the potential to be high impact.
Sadly when you're trading away a top player and getting pieces back, they're never individually as strong as the single player you're trading. Of course, they could be at a later date.

Every prospect does for the most part.
I like Kisakov a bunch, odds he’s an NHL top line player are low
Odds a 2022 late first rounder is a top line player is low
Odds Devon Levi is a starting caliber NHL goalie are astronomically low.
The Eichel return will determine a lot of this, but if we aren’t getting a teams best prospect (which I think is crazy) then the odds we get an impact player are also very low.
It’s a very grim return for three excellent players |

Right. Hence the 'not worth the debate' comment. I get what you're saying. No one wants to be here. But we are, so as we look forward, we gotta hang our hats on our prospects, once again.
Odds of the Sabres winning the lottery were less than 20%. But it happened, twice in four years. Odds are odds because they're not sure things. Just like prospects, and just like their potentials.
As far as the returns for the players, unfortunately they're never fantasy trades. And when they are (Dubois for Laine, Anderson for Domi), you're just left equally as disappointed. |

Outside of the Risto deal, Adams has gotten his face caved in on just about all the other trades he’s made |

Because it’s tough to refute.
You can simultaneously have hope or like a guys potential while acknowledging the odds are stacked against them ending up being impact players.
I’ll stand by my comment that they probably won’t, but definitely see a scenario where Kisakov ends up being our best forward in three years. I just wouldn’t bet on it |

Opinions I guess, but strong disagree.
What was Hall's pending UFA, 2 goal, NMC self worth at the TDL?
Staal? Adams won both of those.
Montour? A 3rd for whatever Krueger did to him was solid.
Anything more than a pile of deer raisons for JJ? Solid.
Trading up for Peterka? Gold Jerry, gold.
Ristolainen (a trash can) for Rosen, a 2nd and a warm body? Another killer.
Buchnevich for a 4th liner and a 2nd < Reinhart for a 1st rounder and a developmental goalie
Don't let the Hall recency bias hit you. It's fair to be disappointed with Reinhart. But the market is the market.

"Quinn was a gifted athlete with raw skills, but unlike many of his competitors at that age, he did not train for hockey year-round. He spent most of his summer days and nights on the golf course and enjoyed competing in almost every sport, including softball, around Cobden, Ontario. This led some to question Quinn’s dedication to hockey."

Thanks for coming out though - DirtyDan
all I got from this is he played many sports when he was 12, like everyone else
he was playing in the HEO U14 AA league at 12, 30 games a year
just like every other eventual hockey prospect

It's fair to say. And I get it. The Sabres are in the 'sum of the parts' mode because the team sucked, the coaches sucked, the GMs sucked, and the owners suck. All we have is hope.

Going over a half ppg in the AHL, with a hernia, when he would've normally been in juniors still, is impressive. He's not currently projecting to be a bottom6 mudder. - QuinnFan

This is what I find funny though
- everyone brings up how we traded a Conn Smythe Selke winner for peanuts, despite him winning those after the trade
Taylor Hall goes on to play at a 35 goal, 80 point pace in Boston and yet everyone quotes what he did here with “2 goals”. You can’t have it both ways. He’s a top line forward.
I also couldn’t care less about Buchnevich because Reinhart had an entire year left on his deal so they weren’t forced to move him and had plenty of space to qualify him or let him go to arbitration
There’s 4 major players the Sabres have traded/are trading, and so far he hit a home run on 1 and struck out looking on another two
The way it’s looking is it will be 1/4. But I’m hoping to be dead wrong

Buchnevich was contractually identical to Reinhart. Similar player, impacts, RFA with arb rights, one year older. |
