Most likely a 7-8 year term...ends when he is 36-37 years old. Yeah yeah I know, but Bergeron is 36. Well facts are facts and Bergeron is an exception, which means it happens very rarely for a player to be that age AND be a productive player. Another thing that is even more rare, a team having a player that has a cap hit of 8-9m playing limited minutes and win. - Glak18
Every team goes through this, hopefully you accomplish some things in the 5-6 years the guy is producing. I really don’t see a big risk here. Even when the guy had his knee torn down by gudas he was producing. No sign says this guy is slowing down. |

I think 8.5-9M in Fla is like 11M here with the tax differences, so I don't see that being more than a sideways move...I don't think there is a chance him leaving. |

Obviously always want the younger guy when they are comparable but no chance he leaves. I also don’t see an issue with giving Coots a long term contract. |

Ads on jerseys starting in 22-23. - Ftown19125
Helmet
One on the jerseys
Then it will be two, then three, and before we know it they'll be NASCAR-ish abominations.
They need to find a better way to get more ad revenue than ruining team jerseys.

Hopefully when they sell jerseys to the fans the ads are removed...unless they sell them much cheaper for advertising. |

As a traditionalist, yes it stinks. Hate to see the sweaters mucked up like that. But if it generates enough revenue to help move the salary cap up I'm okay with it. I won't embrace the idea but I could live with it. I doubt we'll see ticket prices go down:-) but if it helps with raising the cap, okay.
Let me just say that I didn't really think the helmet ads looked completely out-of-place after a couple of months. Some were blended in better than others (Capital One for Washington)...
I saw somewhere, someone mentioned soccer has ads all over their jerseys and it doesn't affect merch sales. Completely different. The logo (or wording) on a hockey jersey is tradition. The sweater is sacred. But, times they are a changing. Teams have taken a hit due to lost ticket revenue.
Once this horse is out of the barn (ads on jerseys) no way they remove them. |

looking at Beregon stats at the same age as Coots is a good start, then projecting what is the potential for Coots. But, will the Flyers give Coots the right wingers like Bergeron has had.

I really don’t get it, how much could it actually add? The helmets , looking at all reports, didn’t seem to add a huge sum of money. |

depends the value of branding for the company, if branding has a huge return for them, then I can see them paying up

The nhl as a whole was aiming for $15M on helmet ads, that’s not moving the needle for the cap... |

Bergeron is also a much better skater than Couturier.
Banking on Sean’s knees to hold up is a fools errand for a team that’s living in fantasy land of being an actual contender. |

They don’t need more money. They just want more.
Alas, with this generation it’s a new world. New not always being better. Things were indeed better before. |

Exactly, it’s not moving the needle for the cap at all, it’s literally just out of greed. At the same time Covid cost them some serious dough so I guess every penny counts but the Jersey, come on. |

I actually think they (college guys) can go to development camp but they have to pay their way. Correct me if I’m wrong Bill.
Wonder how much it cost. I’m sure not many college boys can swing the cost. - peesinwind
Replying to you and ClaudFather - this is correct. If the team pays for it, they are considered "professionals" and their eligibility for NCAA is gone.
On that note, one name on the list that surprises me somewhat is Owen McLaughlin. He's from near where I live and went to HS and played hockey with my son, both in club and for school, though he was not there this year. However, since he lives in the area, he can probably escape the "compensation" issue with the NCAA as he's local and does not have to have the Flyers incur travel and lodging costs on his behalf. That's my hunch though I will admit that I don't have first hand knowledge. |

There was a time where these sweaters were almost sacred. To be respected and not tarnished.
A sign of the times sadly, with people valuing monetary gain more than respect, and history.
Just don’t be fooled that they are somehow starving for money and need the revenue. They don’t. Want proof? Check out capfriendly. |

League is probably looking at just about anything that would lessen their dependence on gate revenues. Especially after the last two seasons. Every little bit helps. |

Owen also isn't in college. He will be in the USHL. so wont effect him. |

Is it really a big deal?
There's already branding all over player equipment, ads all over the boards, ads all over the ice, ads on the glass, ads all over the arena, all broadcast segments are sponsored, that (frank)ing PECO POWER PLAY, scores for a case of Tasty Kake, etc.
Ads on the jerseys will be jarring at first, but eventually you'll stop noticing them and they'll just blend in to the rest of the ads vying for your attention. |

A league that finds ability to increase the cap nearly every season except for a pandemic year is not one that requires more revenue.
I’d have been curious if Snider would have signed on. Jacobs for as much of a greedy low life as he is, I thought would have more respect for history.
Comcast, I’m sure they were squealing in joy. |

Maybe it’s because I’m old, but the electronic ads on the glass behind the net constantly steal my attention. They are obscene and make it hard to concentrate.
The apathy of, “it’s not a big deal” is something that leads to changes in America that aren’t always for the best. It’s what’s lead to the other things you mention. |

To be honest my biggest issue with the games this year, believe it was only the playoff games was an ad permanently next to the score box. Put the ads on the jerseys , boards , helmets, but don’t cut off my franking TV screen. |
