The ads themselves, while not purely Comcast driven is just another indication of my frustration with the marketing of this team, and league.
I get the need for promotion, but for a sport that really does stand out from the others.
The Flyers choose to market personalities like Hayes more than the on ice product, or a mascot more than their captain who while aging, has been a true superstar.
It’s just lazy, modern, and flashy tactics. |

It's the stupid NCAA rules that prevent it. - Letterkenney
NCAA prospects could participate, they would just have to pay their own way. Meals, lodging, transportation, etc I believe |

So then why does him being on the list surprise you? - hello it's me 2050
Because he can still lose NCAA eligibility if they consider him to have been compensated, even before college. That's why players that play in the CHL major juniors are not eligible to play NCAA. They're considered professionals. |

To be honest my biggest issue with the games this year, believe it was only the playoff games was an ad permanently next to the score box. Put the ads on the jerseys , boards , helmets, but don’t cut off my franking TV screen. - ClaudeFather
Banner ads have been a thing for other cable stations for a while. Brief pop ups on the bottom of the screen, or the nearly see through writing thats plastered on the bottom right.
Just my old man rants, and I’ll cease if I can manage. World is going to the poopter, as much as this “woke” generation likes to think they are improving it. |

A league that finds ability to increase the cap nearly every season except for a pandemic year is not one that requires more revenue.
I’d have been curious if Snider would have signed on. Jacobs for as much of a greedy low life as he is, I thought would have more respect for history.
Comcast, I’m sure they were squealing in joy. - FlyerFan3260
League revenue for 19-20 was down 14%. 20-21 revenues were down a whopping 80-85%.
The cap isn't reflective of revenues atm. It's being artificially propped up by the players who are paying out the ass in escrow until the fans come back. |

I do not think that is the case since in USHL. Though not 100% sure.
USHL rules diff than CHL. CHL players get paid USHL does not. |

The cap kept going up season, after season for years. Lockouts which were supposed to at least help prevent unsubstantiated growth of said cap.
They find themselves in a bubble ready to burst you say?
It’s of their own doing, and no they don’t need the money. It’s greed, and don’t lecture me that it’s something more. Many Americans took a step back in this pandemic financially, and have learned to adjust accordingly.
The modern NHL, and current ownership is just showing they care more about profitability than respecting the sport they represent. As I said, sign of the times. Doesn’t mean it’s for the better. |

The nhl as a whole was aiming for $15M on helmet ads, that’s not moving the needle for the cap... - ClaudeFather

Maybe it’s because I’m old, but the electronic ads on the glass behind the net constantly steal my attention. They are obscene and make it hard to concentrate.
The apathy of, “it’s not a big deal” is something that leads to changes in America that aren’t always for the best. It’s what’s lead to the other things you mention. - FlyerFan3260
Things change, nothing is sacred. No offense, but the billionaire owners and millionaire players aren't gonna leave money on the table just because it offends some boomer sensibilities. NHL actually held out longer than most other pro hockey leagues across the globe.
White ice and boards, plain sticks and skates didn't make the players skate faster or shoot harder or hit more often. It's all just set dressing and has nothing to do with the game. |

Yet, the old school game had more flow and passion in it than the robotic show on ice you see currently.
If you choose to ignore that fact, by all means.
I acknowledge my views are something that is being filtered out. The boomer reference does make me chuckle at times I must admit, as if the current “enlightened” path is setting up future generations for something to be looked forward to.
Back to hockey, and the ads in question. I find them disrespectful and not necessary. Does it help someone choose between a Lambo and a Shelby? Sure.

Nice sentiments, but the cap was always tied to league revenues. 50/50 split.

Your opinions, are very vogue. Alas, I cannot argue they arent truthful at the current time.

Sign of the times? It’s just good old fashioned capitalist greed. Nothing new about it. It was here before you and will be here after you’re gone. |

I'm adding a "PornHub" logo to my Flyers jersey. Just to see how it looks. Might keep it there.
Ugh... |

Ads on jerseys, electronic banners behind the net, etc, etc.
These things were not there before. So while I agree to a point, it’s the continued effects of opening Pandora’s box without an ounce of self restraint. It’s worse today, that can’t be argued. |

Know what would be awesome.
If a company decided to pay to not have an ad on the helmet or jersey, when the rest of the league will have them. They could announce that during the break or whatever.
That’s something I could get behind. |

Players are not paid in the USHL. They live with billet families and are not paid by the team for anything. |

They can participate once in their collegiate career, so long as it does not overlap with a scholastic semester. You are correct that they have to pay all of their own expenses beyond the first 48 hours. |

Yeah. Will the jersey cost more with an ad on it? How would that impact fan jersey sales if they had an ad? I can’t see myself buying a jersey with a McDonald’s or Dunkin ad on it.
