Europe has been doing the adds for years. After a season no one will really notice. The question I have is will jerseys be sold with the advertisements. |

If it's just gonna be a patch, I doubt it.
Just saw a report that the NHL earned $100M off helmet ads. Jersey ads should bring even more. Say they clear $250-300M off these tiny ass little adds... that's about as much as NBC was paying them yearly for US TV rights

Things change, nothing is sacred. No offense, but the billionaire owners and millionaire players aren't gonna leave money on the table just because it offends some boomer sensibilities. NHL actually held out longer than most other pro hockey leagues across the globe.
White ice and boards, plain sticks and skates didn't make the players skate faster or shoot harder or hit more often. It's all just set dressing and has nothing to do with the game. - Tomahawk

It can't be done on the same scale as in Europe where ads cover 70% of the jersey, and there are also ads on the socks, pants (including, memorably in Switzerland, a Charmin ad on the seat of the pants) and helmets. |

Bill where would you see Wyatt Kalynuk being slotted if he was in the flyers organization? He is arguably the hawks top prospect (not sure if that is good or bad).

If you think ads are jerseys are bad, just wait until you have to sift through all of Max Kellerman's wokeness to get to an NHL highlight on that channel this year....
But we'll still have Barry Melrose to enjoy. |

I agree, if the NHL went the Europe route that would drive me insane. However I think adds on jerseys can be done in a way as to not disrespect the sport or hurt the viewing experience. I'm probably one of the few on this forum that play and watch tennis for example, but if you watch you will see the top players, both male and female, have multiple adds on their shirts, but its very subtle, you only see them really when there is a close-up on the player. I would hope the NHL would do something similar. |

Geez, I am not looking forward to watching any games on ESPN. Melrose especially is so checked out, you can really tell he doesn't watch the teams and the games, and besides that his hockey awareness and knowledge is strikingly poor. No wonder why he was not able to keep a coaching job once Gretzky left LA or even been offered one. |
