This will be the last year I buy a jersey.
I will NEVER buy a jersey with an advertisement on it.
If they want to advertise on ME, then they need to PAY ME.
There is already enough advertising on the boards, the ice--dont need it on the jersey |

I was quite content with never giving the NHL another dime of my money after going woke. After hearing advertisements are coming to jerseys I might just stop paying attention all together. |

If ads brought ticket prices down then I'd be all for it. But it won't, it'll go straight into the owners' pockets. They probably won't even use the extra revenue to increase the cap but instead keep teams like Arizona afloat. They'll do it though for sure, they already have the foot in the door with the helmets. In 10-15 years the jerseys will look like the European leagues and we'll have all gotten used to it by then.

Love it, came in here to let my old "get off my lawn" man out and couldn't have said it better myself.
In dana carvey's grumpy old man voice- "back in my day the boards where as white as the ice and we loved it"
I will also not be attending a game in person with this stuff on a jersey. If this nonsense hurts the bottom line in other ways maybe it can then be undone. You want to prostitute your hockey club out, fine, but I don't have to buy tickets to your shenanigans.
Only way to change the owners minds is to hit them where it hurts.

I'll be 30 next week. I've been playing the game of ice hockey for 20 years and have watched the NHL since I was 5 years old. I'm not lying when I say Ill never attend another NHL game again in my life.
If that quote is true, it's exactly what's wrong with the world. Believing that you can tap societies pulse and know your fan base strictly through Facebook and Twitter data.
I don't need the NHL to enjoy ice hockey and never did.

I already did. I stopped mid-way through this joke of a season that was embarrassing and should have been canceled.
I've moved onto watching way, way more MMA. |

Using people as billboards for marketing is getting out of hand. You want to put something on the helmet? Fine, but leave the beauty of a jersey the way it is. Next we will be doing this on men's suits, so next time you go to a funeral, you can see the advertisement for 1-800-FLOWERS to remind you for that next wake you need to attend to. There is a point where it becomes tacky, and this is where it starts, so find better ways to advertise. - musicnutz

People are greedy. I’ve come to terms with the morality of that. We all are greedy at times. At least this is not at the expense of the fans. |

Honestly, the only way there is a chance that ads would be pulled from jerseys is if fans boycotted all merch AND the companies that paid for the ads; making it a financial deficit until ads are removed. Sadly, I doubt hockey fans could pull together like that. |

you are suggesting that I shouldn't watch hockey because of ads on a jersey?

The Vegas speculation is total BS. They simply can’t afford him. Nor can they move enough salary out to create the space for him
Lol any team can clear the necessary cap hit. All it takes is some wheeling and dealing. Vegas can trade Smith/Tuch + Chandler that’s about $7-$8 mill right there and then Sabres are more than willing to hold some of that contract as well. So you honestly have no clue what you’re talking about. Figures, Rangers fan right. |

It's okay if the ads are plastered all over the boards, virtually projected on the end-glass and the ice surface, but not patched on the sweaters? Ads for the companies that sell equipment are already painted on sticks, taped to the helmets, printed on skate boots, embroidered on gloves, pants and sweaters. If it comes down to fans not wanting the advertisement attached to the jerseys marketed to the public "or else I'll never buy another one!" the NHL can simply project virtual ads onto each player as they sit on the bench or hop over the boards or crash into a goaltender. Why the outrage? Where are all the capitalists when you need them? |
