Not actual concern, but I am baffled as to how something that looks as incomplete as the arena does will be completely finished in exactly three months

Like, I can buy that all the seats will be in, everything will be wired up, iced over, and everything will be structurally completed but I just can't picture like sheetrock being hung, grass being planted outside, paint on the walls, etc... by that date.

I know they'll finish on time, it just boggles my mind that they'll get it done in another 12 weeks.

Much the same was said about Rogers Place iirc.

Haha there’s an arena in Brooklyn with some horrible sight lines, blind spots in corners, awful ice and a Honda Pilot sitting in the corner seeking a hockey team 😆😆

Pretty sure they don't want hockey back at Barclays. It wasn't designed for it, and the attempts at retrofit did not go well....

Sheet rock was being hung about 2 months ago when I was there.
They have tons of people working on site. It has to be done because tickets have been sold and you can’t fit 18k in The Coli or BC, so I’m thinking it will be done or shat is gonna hit the fan as you said.

Edit: Tim Leiweke is the guy who is running the Oak View group. They just renovated the Krakens Stadium in Seattle.

It wasn’t that long ago that this type of sh!t happened to the Isles! 😆😆 Any idea if there’s an alternate arena for them to play within relatively close proximity?
- streaks

They could play temporarily in what used to be called America West Arena(no idea what it’s called now). That’s where they first played when they moved to Arizona. Same issue as BC though. Can’t see the net from the upper deck at one end. They might also be able to play at the arena that ASU plays in. Absolutely no idea how either of those would work but there’s 2 options. I’ve also read that they were trying to work a deal with Tempe to build an Arena. No clue where that stands at this time. It’s on the south East side of Phoenix so it’s closer than Glendale and close to the ASU campus.

I don’t know much about that market but I can’t imagine they have a strong fan base there. At least in Florida there a lot of snowbirds and northerners who vacation there for a week or two and have interest in watching hockey. Will be interesting to see what happens to Coyotes in the next few years. I’m not even 100% sure if they are the AZ or Phoenix Coyotes at this point 😂😂. Pretty sure it’s AZ but that sounds funny to me...

Ok so it’s the AZ Coyotes. Wasn’t aware Houston was in the running for a hockey team.

https://en.wikipedia.org/...320_attendance_statistics I don't like to pick on team's "fan base" b/c I remember when our team's fan base was constantly chirped about on all hockey sites. .. the Bottom line is Arizona has been trending higher every year as far as attendance and they have always been at least 13k in the arena... the Arena only holds about 17k when completely full. ... I remember a LOT of Isles games where the upper decks were way way short of full and if your team is filling it's arena at 85% that is pretty solid IMO.

Arizona has been building a decent fan base and has kids playing hockey more and more each year. It says a lot that one of the best players in the world right now is from Arizona...

I like what the ownership said in response to the dopey Politicians comment in the paper on the Arena deal. My guess is all of it is just posturing to help get the deal done on both sides. If they can't get it done in Glendale then I hope they get a deal done in Scottsdale, Tempe or back to Phx.

the people always trying to get every team to go to Canada which "appreciates" hockey so much should look at Ottawa's numbers last full season. Then ask themselves why Quebec lost their team to Begin with... it wasn't b/c those HUGE Canadian hockey teams sold out every game.

Funny story about that. They were Phoenix when they first moved to AZ. Then, in an effort to include the Tucson market (about an hour & 15 minutes away), they changed it to the Arizona Coyotes. Then moved to the far northwest side of Phoenix (Glendale) which made it about a 2 hour drive not including traffic. Which you had to drive through downtown Phoenix to get there.
They do have a fan base. It's small, but can you blame them? This organization has been run like sh!t for a couple decades now. From the owners, past and present, down, this team has been a joke. Even the location of the arena isn't conducive for fans in Phoenix to attend. And there are a metric fvck ton of snowbirds that flock to Phoenix and Arizona in general.

Barclay's was a sht show. When you are really dependent on the LIRR for your commuting to and from anything you are in for a terrible experience.. period. If you tried to drive to Brooklyn it was a complete nightmare too... it wasn't in an area you could get to with NO traffic.. let alone a ton of traffic. If you tried to leave the place early b/c it was a school night and you wanted to take the early train home the LIRR would just hold the train until the game ended.. then you would be on a platform forever at Jamaica with a million drunken idiots. I hated that place....

I clocked the mileage difference from the Coliseum compared to Belmont.. it's like an extra 10 miles... and it's very easy to get to.. it's not as great as Nassau but it's close.

Yeah, here's the thing about that stat, it's based on ticket sales, not actual attendance. I've been to a lot of games there(driving up from Tucson), and the only time I've seen it full was when Detroit was in town. Otherwise, lucky if it was half full. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the fan base at all. The team has been mismanaged for years and the arena is too far away from Phoenix to attract marginal or casual fans on a regular basis. Now, if they were a competitive team and had made at least some deep playoff runs, then I think that barn would be rocking most every night.
On another note, it is a real nice arena. There aren't any bad seats, the food is very good with a lot of selections and the restrooms are pretty clean and plentiful.

Us Islander fans can certainly relate to that. Well, the snowbirds that migrate to FL are primarily from the northeast which has a relatively high percentage of hockey fans. Maybe it's the same for AZ 'birds but I'd imagine more folks going there would be from northern midwest, which I guess would have some hockey fans too if they're from MI and MN. So what the hell do I know..

Pretty much nobody is going to mind going the extra 10 miles because A) everyone wants to see the new arena, B) It's only ten miles, which will seem like less, C) the team is winning and heading in an upward trajectory. Just my opinion.

You are right. That's where most of the snowbirds come from in AZ. You get the occasional person from the northeast or Quebec.
Now living in Indiana, I know a lot of guys I work with vacation in FLA. And they all say the same thing. It's hot and humid. If it's not storming, that is.

I had season tix to Isles for a long time. I would go to a game on Tuesday against a team that didn't matter and I would swear there wasn't 2500 people in the arena and the game attendance number would come out at 9k... it was comical.

I used to get a few pucks a game b/c there was no nets. I would search for a kid to give them too.. I had a construction bucket full of old Game pucks that I gave my son when he started to play hockey. when I told them they were game pucks he couldn't believe it..

Panthers have issues with attendance too. I feel like they are in the only place in Florida that doesn't have a ton of Northeasterners... if they moved that arena closer to West Palm it would be better off... IMO.

the only people in Miami area are not the Hockey type.

The problem is that they're not getting an arena built in a year, they're kind of (frank)ed here unless they can work out a deal to stay until a new arena in a different city is green-lit

It’ll never happen but I 100% agree. Between west palm and sunrise can be one of the most congested areas in Florida (which is still better then anywhere in NY ).

As Isleshockeyman mentioned they could feasibly play in that America West Arena while they construct a new one. My guess is if they even had a decent game plan it would end the stalemate on the negotiations with Glendale... I still think it's all just B.S. negotiation tactics and they will get it all worked out.

looking at the new divisions and Arizona is now in the Central and Seattle in the Pacific. that is a crazy amount of traveling the Yotes are going to be doing to play Minn, chicago, Winnipeg, and St. Louis...

has to be a better way to figure out these divisions for everyone.. especially with the Covid nonsense.. Some team traveling like crazy while others are relatively close to hom mostly in their own division seems a bit unfair.
