I'm happy Sid won. He was deserving and I'm not saying he's not. During the "Toews Better" era, a lot of hay was made about how Sidney Crosby just wasn't a very good captain and intangibles had to be taken into consideration when evaluating Toews. Well, you're right. Sid intangibled the ever living poop out of that Cup run, and the whole hockey world took note. I felt like that was the first time people unequivocally appreciated his greatness and no one wElL aKtUalY'ed his accomplishments with "well, but he's a female dog", "well, but he's not a great leader like Toews", "well, he's not any good defensively", or "well, he's no Ovi on offense." Everyone jumping to his defense after Couture's stupid Crosby cheats comments was a big turning point in his perception.
All that is to say I'll never say Sid didn't deserve it, but it felt like a career culmination award and an admission that people were wrong about him, because if voting were scaled to only the playoffs and all narratives outside of those specific playoff games were excluded, Kessel deserved it more. What makes me feel bad for Phil is that the very next season Sid was the clear cut Conn Smythe winner, so if the reason the voters voted for Sid was because they felt he in some way shape or form that he deserved a Smythe on his legacy even if they thought Phil was better, subconsciously or not, it ended up being unnecessary. Obviously no one could have known that though. - Victoro311
I can see where you're coming from with your points and believe them to be valid, no doubt.
I would of been happy with Phil winning it, love that guy. He was a major piece in my life long team winning back to backs. He was deserving as well. For me personally though, once they win that cup, it doesn't really matter all that much who gets the Conn Smythe. The team battled all the way to ultimate glory and that's what really matters (to me). I've always been a its the logo on the front, not the name on the back kinda guy anyway. |

"Up next we have an underappreciated Tyler Kennedy... Kennedy. Boy did this guy get under the skin of some Penguins fans. I don’t think he ever got his proper due among the fan base as a whole. He was a very good third line player."
I think a big factor in this was he kind of took the spot and cap space a lot of Pens fans thought would go to Jagr and when Jagr decided to sign with the Flyers, Kennedy was signed like a day or two later for 2 mill, while Jagr signed for only a bit over 3 mill I believe. Jagr went on to have a very good season. |

He was deserving for sure, so was Sid haha. Jakey, as a rookie, with his team leading 13 goals, a lot of which very timely and impactful, should really be considered here too. 13 goals is a lot in a cup run, that's 3 more than Phil had in the 2016 run.
I can still see Jakey scoring off a rush on the wing against Renni after the Pens went like 30+ mins without a shot in a 0-0 game in the finals hahah
EDIT: 5 game winning goals in the run and a few tying goals. Important goals.

I was such a big Paul Mart fan. It’s a shame that his tenure here was during the peak of Bylsma’s ineptitude and the doldrums of the Sid and Malkin Era. |

Think the main beef w/ Phil was that a few people didn’t even score him in the top 5, n sid won it by only a few pts. He woulda won if not left off completely, or something like that. |

"Robbed" is a little too dramatic here IMO. - MattStrat
I think so too. There really is a good argument for both men so I don't think it was a slam dunk either way. |

Man you're right. Jagrwatch sort of ended Kennedy's time here on a bad note. Didn't help he couldn't follow up his career year from the previous season. But he was a real good 3rd liner during his time here.
When everyone was doing all-time Pens line-ups, I was kicking around making one of just Pens lines that played for a whole together. This was the only defense first line I'd have considered. Used to love watching them pin teams in all game. |

Cooke was an absolute beauty in those days. Before hockey decided to change its entire culture to suit wussy ass America. Any puck carrier on the ice was always looking for him. Well except Marc Savard. |

Pull it to? What are you 12? Cooke was a very effective checking line winger with decent enough offensive upside. He was taught his entire life to make it he had to hit everything in sight, then the game of hockey flipped the script on him. |

Nah all the other players Cooke's age played just fine, he's just dumb. Cooke is just that guy that you just want to punch in the face. Think of the most annoying person you work with, that's Cooke. |

Only thing I'm changing there is Hossa for Horn....unless there's a minimum amount of games criteria here haha...if not, I'd probably put Horn ahead of Neal there if Hossa took Horn's place.
