Hey, now Eakin did score 22 goals a few years ago. Credit where credit is due. Ralph may have been his problem. I don't know. The great Johan Larsson never approached that number nor did he approach 41 pts in a year. I think his mullet could be slowing him up.
- GilPerreault11

I went back and looked at his line combos from that season. He was centering Max Pacioretty and Alex Tuch.

I spent years complaining that Larsson played too much so I hear ya

Cody Eakin was ECHL quality last year. What do career stats have to do with anything ?

Johan Larsson has been one of the better defensive forwards in the NHL since he has come into the league.

Are both replaceable ? Yes absolutely.

Larsson is a much better player at this point in his career then Eakin is and it’s not even close

Johan does not have the mullet that Eakin does and who gives a flying f*ck about Larsson?

You’re right, I apologize for bringing him up and starting this debate. I clearly did not just respond to a post and provide a fact check.

Around here, Larsson is a Selke candidate, so the next time you refer to Johan "Carbonneau" Larsson, you do so with some reverence!

Eakin was an exceptionally bad player with and without Ralph. Larsson brought his usefulness in preventing goals. Eakin did nothing for twice the salary. Kind of a boring topic to continue, but Larsson is unequivocally a better career player.

Even though the stats don't say so and you were unequivocally wrong about the value of Risto sure, whatever you say

I know who I'm arguing with, so I'm not going to spend much time on this. But I'll play along. What was I wrong about with Risto?

And the stats do, in fact, say so about Larsson vs Eakin. If you're going to go with plus minus, we might as well talk about which doggies are the cutest. If you want to go with box score, it is fact that Eakin has more goals. Just like Ristolainen has more goals than ME Vlasic in the same amount of time. But it would be ignorant at best to say that, at similar ages, Ristolainen was a better defenseman than Vlasic.

It seems to hurt you that you said so many detrimental things about Risto over the years and then to be proved wrong is tough to take. Pride is one of the 7 deadly sins so I will let you keep stating your ignorant beliefs if it helps you find solace in the matter.

I mean 7 teams reportedly offering such a bad Dman a first, in your view, and WAR numbers going up and down once players go from good teams to bad and bad teams to good but I'm not sure if you consider that as General Managers do but you are wiser. Thank you for all your info. Truly appreciated.

Who was Eakin's problem when he had 10 total points in 41 games with a quality Vegas team 2 seasons ago?

It's ok to admit that Eakin stinks.

I'm hurt now? I stand by everything I said about Risto, I have the evidence to prove every word of it, the eye test proves it every night, and I dare you to venture into Philly blogs this year.
Get real dude.

And in regards to Eakin and Larsson. You want to use WAR numbers and compare it to good and bad teams? I'll bump it up a notch, we'll do Standings Points Above Replacement. It's a cumulative value of what a player brings to his team. Johan Larsson, during his entire tenure, the Sabres have been between dog poop and ok. He's had six, count them, six seasons where he added value to his team. Once Bylsma was fired, he flourished again.

Cody Eakin had three years of positive value, one was his rookie season on Washington with extremely limited minutes. He played for far superior teams as Washington, Dallas, Vegas and Winnipeg.

Yeah and Chicago moved even more for Seth Jones who sucks.

It’s funny how you acknowledge that the Skinner contract was god awful, yet can’t also understand that the price for Risto was also god awful for Philly.

Skinner should have walked to UFA, and Flyers fans are going to realize real quickly that Risto is a tire fire.

GM’s are idiots for the most part.

He probably does but he is maybe the 4th line center on a tanking team and there was not a huge loss in losing Larsson too was my belief who he pretty much replaced and Larsson had 14 pts in more games last year but has half the pts in his career.

I dont see why they would want to start Eakin over Hayden. Hayden doesn't score but neither does Eakin. Hayden is decent defensively which Eakin isn't. Hayden punches people in the face and Eakin doesn't.

Seems like an easy decision to me unless they really love faceoffs but Okposo could take draws for Hayden

- Hank Balling

That first line is what I thought. Eakin is just bad, if Hayden can play a decent defensive game, he's an improvement. I hope FOs aren't a deciding factor either, good point.
