Ray scored 400 goals in the league, that in and of itself is an incredible accomplishment for a guy who’s 5’8” in the 80’s and 90’s. - LeftCoaster
He’s not that small. He’s 5 ft 10 in and 192 lb when he was playing. Half of the Canucks are around that size now. Most of the Aby Canucks are around that size as well.

We ain’t big up front which will be interesting to see how we fair against some pretty big clubs in the west.
Pretty much a challenge for all the youngins to figure out & prep & train for. Takes it toll on anyone. - Nighthawk
It's an ongoing process. Did you notice in Carol's blog that Hank said its the way to have a winning team. That best players must constantly find ways to improve their game/play. We've seen it from Bo and BB so far. Podz seems serious about that approach too.

I think it's gonna be 3-4 years before we really see what we have in him. Step 1 can he hold up to the 82 game grind? - Load Management
Post that fight again. That was ugly. He’s going to have to defend himself at some point and if he comes in swinging like that he’s going to get his clock cleaned.

Iirc Ovie had a fight like that very early on his career, he got better his next fight, about 10 years later

I’ve met him several times, he’s not 5’10” tall, he’s 5’9” at best. At any rate, it was hard to be a successful goal scorer in the 80’s at that height. Now it’s different. He used determination and pure skill to score eleven 20+ goal seasons including two 40 goal campaigns.
I guess what I’m saying is you portraying him as a “grinder” is completely off base. 98 players in NHL history have 400+ goals, he’s one of them, he was no grinder.
Even after 20 years my Wife still flips out when she has to drive my truck. "Every fucking time I get in your truck and start it I get the shit scared out of me because you have your fucking stereo cranked." - Load Management
I have some Death Metal suggestions for you to introduce her to...

I'd say just below average on the farm. Here's a link showing the heights and weights of all of our players and prospects.

What? Here’s the list of the leading scorers during the 80s
Denis Savard
Dale Hawerchuk
Marcel Dionne
Mike Bossy
Dino Ciccarelli
I could go on but most of the top scorers are under 6’-0” and I about two or three are over 200lbs. - bloatedmosquito
Exactly, none of those guys were grinders, and neither was Ray Ferraro, which you stated. He was a short but awesomely talented goal scorer. Of the 800-900 or so guys who play every year you listed two guys who were 5’9” or less, Dino and Denis Savard, both of whom were also unbelievable goal scorers.
Back in the 80’s being big was the thing, programs always added and inch or two to your actual height. I think it’s much more accurate now a days. - LeftCoaster

I didn’t say he was a grinder. I said he was miscast as a grinder by some of his coaches especially after his NY Islander days because of his truculence. I’ll see if I can find that story where he talks about it. It was an interesting read because you could feel his frustration at how the NHL operated then.

Dude, I love my wife but she might have the most horrific taste in music of all time. Every time I turn on her car I have to brace myself from what’s going to come out of those speakers. - bloatedmosquito
lol tell me about it. GF would still have the same 12 cd's and same 12 movies if she never saw my music/movie collection. At least she diversified a little bit

He just wanted to freewheel and score as much as humanly possible lol, they made him be more responsible defensively and he was pissed

Yes I noticed & I also read it before this blog was posted.
The stars & cores are always improving & carrying the mail if a team is to be successful.

Has to learn the clutch & tie up the swinging arm or he’ll get clocked.
