As Rojan points out I’m full of poop. Regardless I’m concerned they’ll try and make him into something he’s not. Kind of like Virtanen funnily enough.

The Canucks are so desperate for aggression and yet most of the players they have are skill offensively but a bit light on truculence.

Just my opinion.

I think they will just let him play. I don't think they expect him to lead yet. I think he will turn into a Hertl type.

I’ve met him several times, he’s not 5’10” tall, he’s 5’9” at best. At any rate, it was hard to be a successful goal scorer in the 80’s at that height. Now it’s different. He used determination and pure skill to score eleven 20+ goal seasons including two 40 goal campaigns.

I guess what I’m saying is you portraying him as a “grinder” is completely off base. 98 players in NHL history have 400+ goals, he’s one of them, he was no grinder.

That doesn't show the AHL contracts. A few of the recent players signed are 5'10

He just wanted to freewheel and score as much as humanly possible lol, they made him be more responsible defensively and he was pissed
- LeftCoaster

That could be true but if I scored almost 200 points in a season in junior I’d want to freewheel too.

Im a firm believer in the destructive results of over-coaching. I think another good example is Gilbert Brulé. Kid had a ton of skill yet somehow they (frank)ed up his development and tried to make him something he wasn’t.

I think there’s a ton of examples if I really cared to look.

Really! Holy poop I would be ecstatic if he scored like Hertl. Fingers crossed.

Ray is the classic pouter and one of the biggest whiners/weiners of his era.

Maybe but in the end he walked the walk & talked the talk.

Has to learn the clutch & tie up the swinging arm or he’ll get clocked.

I'm surprised he survived throwing those looping rights. He's wide open punching like that. Send him for a weekend at the Bieksa's.

On those comparisons JV didn't have Pods motor or determination or professional drive to be his best. Still Pod has to adjust to smaller ice & bigger & better players.

Just a bit?

The Women's World championships start tomorrow, probably see more truculence in that tournament, than what we have seen from Canucks.

Nice to see you're taking some of Rojan's words of wisdom to heart. Trust me, you'll come out the other side a better man.

Are you kidding? Guys like Rojan make my day. I’m more likely to spew nonstop now just to piss him off more.

Saying that, it’s nice to have a fan club even if it’s only a membership of one.

A ton of really talented players never make it for a variety of reasons. There’s only so many top six jobs and you wouldn’t believe how much politics plays into it. At least when I played.

Smaller ice is better for Podz's game. People forget how he stood out in Vancouver tournament and was considered a top 3 pick.

I don't like having to correct you all the time, but he had 12 20 goal seasons. He had 21 goals the season he got traded from the Whalers to the Islanders.

I can believe it. From what I’ve read coaches in the 70s and 80s were particularly arrogant mofos. Could kill a career in seconds for the hell of it.

I think with the value of player contracts today it’s now the coaches who are vulnerable.

Nice, guy was a fantastic goal scorer. Him and Cicerelli were absolute pricks, just sour, crusty, individuals, which helped them not take any poop from anyone and made them unafraid to get to the dirty areas in front of the net when huge defencemen could almost kill you before they got a penalty.

"If you’re one of the most demanding, if not downright miserable fans in the game, it might as well be 500 seasons and counting."

Not sure on who this professional sports take on Canuck fans applies to here.... any idea?

You have 8+/- new players going into year 8 of the rebuild, good % of the entire roster Benning built, let that sink in

Give the kid a chance to develop.
