How do they keep a cap compliant roster if they trade the three above at the trade deadline? By taking cap dumps back as part of the trades? - kingcong39

No.
Just like Bob Cole, he's going to retire a decade too late. Can't really blame the guy, though. It's all he knows.

I had a debate with someone here about Roy
His peak prime wasn’t as long as some guys but for a stretch he was a legit mid tier/low end 1C.
I’d take Eichel in a heartbeat but they did have two legit top 6 centers when Briere/Drury left - sbroads24
Very low-end.
They were both second line centers. Both had issues off the ice as well. Connolly couldn't stay healthy. Roy did for the most part, except for the 3+ month stretch in 2010-2011. When your team plays its best stretch of hockey by a mile when you're not in the lineup, you're not underrated. Derek Roy probably gets more credit than he deserves, which isn't that much. |

Eh, small sample sizes can always be misleading.
If I had to guess, the Sabres got their best stretch of goaltending during that time frame.
Both were better players than Drury, the one who deservedly should be labeled as "over rated". |

I remember in the late 70's hiding my little Radio under my pillow hiding from my parent so I could listen to RJ's calls of the game. Especially when it was a western road swing. I used to always get busted because I would cheer when we scored or when fights started. I was a stoopid kid.... |

That might be. I believe the Enroth stretch in March was part of it. However, there aren't too many teams that lose their supposed top center and all of a sudden become a better team, goaltending or no. The Sabres are one of them.
