The last full NHL season 2018-2019 there were 37 30-30 guys.

Granted there were more than 37 60 point players (74 in fact) but a 30-30 player is more than okay.

- Stripes77

30 and 30 is different then just 60 points.

I’m in no way saying that would be bad or unimpressive at all.

I’m saying if he’s de facto 1C, getting all the opportunities we should expect 55-60 points IMO

So he puts up ROR (Buffalo numbers) and that's not good?
- Stripes77

We’re arguing semantics now

I’m saying it’s not impressive to me, it would be my expectation. I wouldn’t say it’s unimpressive or bad either

If Mitts is top 75 in scoring for a guy who was labeled as a bust of an 8th overall pick, that's still pretty damn good.
- Stripes77

Sure, but if it's at 1C with PP time then it's less so. It's the best situation in hockey and there are dozens of players who could do the same given the opportunity

The 2013-2014 Sabres didn't have 1 60 point player on their roster, hell they didn't even have a 50 point player on their roster, neither did the 2014-2015 Sabres.

Now those teams were historically bad, but I think you're being unrealistic if you think expect 60 points out of him.

I really think you need to go dig into the last decade of Sabres stats and show that it's not a dime a dozen thing

Mitts ended last season under Granato playing less, with lesser teammates, at a high PPG pace.

We’d be impressed if he scores less with am increased opportunity

I sort of did. If Gus can score at a .5 ppg pace at 1C with PP time, I won't be blown away if a much more skilled Mittelstadt can get to .75

And I think he will

The last time the Sabres made the playoffs they didn't have a center over 50 points

Derek Roy had 35 points in 35 games I believe

I’ll be happy if he scores 60 points. But as you said hardly blown away

So over the last decade besides Eichel and O'Reilly he was the only Sabres center to be on a 60 point pace (for that specific season).

Also the next season he had 44 points averaging over 19 minutes a game.

Someone is going to get PP assists feeding Olofsson and candidate #1 is Mittelstadt. #2 is Dahlin

I just want to see growth out of these guys. If they all can take there game up a notch the points will come. Gonna have a young group, see if they can grow into a new core.

I'm old and yeah I should be but I needed a break. There is only so much I can write about competitive markets and externalities

Were there any other 1Cs during the drought besides Eichel, ROR and Gus?

Post concussion Connolly, Hodgson and Steve Ott I guess

Tyler Ennis (played center for one of the years)
Cody Hogdson
Derek Roy in 2011-2012

All had shots getting close to 19 minutes a night

None of them finished higher than 50 points with Thomas Vanek for some of those years.

I'd argue Casey Mittelstadt is a more talented center than any of them, including a declining Derek Roy who never hit 40 points again after that season

Also, Ennis was on 50+ point paces two years in a row at Mitts age now.

So I looked at Ottawa over the last decade, the only centers they had that did it were Duchene, Turris one year, and prime Jason Spezza.

I just think expecting Mitts to get close to 60 points on a team that is going to be bad is foolish

I'll make you a bet of 400 internet points:

If Mittelstadt plays 80 games with 20+ minutes ATOI w/ PP1 time then he hits 60 points

I would be very happy if he hit that

But to be fair I don't think he will get 20 minutes a night. I would be surprised if any forward gets 20 minutes a night.

Going back to the tank years where it was spread out there wasn't a Sabres forward that had 20 minutes a night. Ott was the closest at 19:42
