Sign Chara and pressure Sanheim to acccept a realistic aav (i.e. 4x$4M)

thats not the type of player i would reach for at all.
- hello it's me 2050

At 19 it would’ve been slight reach. Most had him projected mid 20’s. I think he went 31? Personally with already selecting farabee I wish they’d have drafted Samuelson a little early than swing for job that was projected 3rd round maybe 2nd although some had him moving up to possible late round 1 pick. But not pissed at the pick

Houston would make much more sense and would have an instant rivalry with Dallas while still giving Bettman a big southern US market for tv.

Houston does make sense. Booming area for some time. No need for realignment if I'm not mistaken.

As I believe the arbitration award is now either or. Either they side with player or team. I believe it was changed where arbitrator has to choose which offer to agree with with no ability to make his own decision I think sandy probably asking in the 6 mil range and team offering in the 3 mil range. They obviously are far apart or wouldn’t be going to arbitration.

I think sandy will win.

Could be wrong but don’t they have to at least offer more than his last deal as a rfa?

Yes, they already had to make a qualifying offer or he would be UFA

Hockey is huge in Minnesota. But I never hear about Wisconsin. Wonder why.

Too close to Buffalo. They won’t put a team in 2 small markets that close too each other

Hamilton is not big, but southern Ontario is close to 8 million ….that’s all within an hours to 1.5 hours drive of Hamilton. It’s a hockey hot bed obviously.

I think if hamilton or quebec wants a team, the nhl will wait to expand again. Just too much money in franchise fees to ignore. Why move a team when someone will pay close to 1 billion to buy a team
- bradster

This is so true….what’s the going rate? 600 million to 800….the NHL would want those $s.

zadorov just signed for 3.75.

Think this may help the flyers case with sanhiem.

- Peter Richards

It doesn't. Clearly points out that Sanheim is worth more than some Flyers fans think.

He and poink are the two closest comparisons signed this summer. No zadorov does not have as much offense but brings other elements that sanhiem does not.

Who signed this summer do you think is the closest comparison?

I really don't see that many younger people drinking soda at all these days. Unless they're hiding it in those metal flasks they carry around.

Soda's really one of the more awful things you can put in your body.

There is no “either or provision” Arbitration awards can and almost always do fall between the two offers. Bertuzzi last year got 3.5M falling between the 4.25 and 3.15 offers. Odds are still very much against Sanheim going to arbitration.

The two players you mentioned give a ball park. Sanheim is significantly better than Zadorov but not as good as Poink. So that puts it where I always thought it should be. Around 4.5M give or take.

The gap between Pionk and Travis is probably negligible. Put Travis in Winnipeg w/ all that PP time and he's probably equaling Pionk's output. They're both pretty good at ES. Pionk doesn't kill penalties.

Zadarov is actually dominant defensively but he's not very well rounded.

He said 4.5 for Travis. Imo that would be for a two year deal. I like zadorov s game. Before Risto and hindsight. Wish we could’ve grabbed him for the price Calgary paid. Not sure I agree about the pp time. Why wasn’t he used more here I guess would be my question.

Playing the 1-3-1 and they only use 1 dman on each unit. Not many PP minutes to go around.

Understand. Imo if we had poink he would’ve been one of them though.
