Lucic, Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Coleman, Tanev, and Markstrom all have some degree of NTC. None are waiving for Buffalo. And none are waiving to go to Buffalo if a promise to be flipped afterwards for fear that it wipes their NTC.

I don't believe it works that way anymore.

I believe their contract conditions stay with them, even if they agree to be traded to a team that is not on their list.

I believe that was part of the updated CBA.

Now find a way to make it work for the NHL. It drives the flames over the cap limit, while still having an incomplete roster, and drops BUF even further below the floor. Buffalo needs to add 8+M to their cap to make the floor, or else face penalties that could include losing their 1st round pick(s) with JE on their roster. Adding 3-4 guys on entry level deals, while shedding Jack's 10M doesn't help solve that. And most of the guys on calgary's roster that have bigger contracts also have some form of a NTC likely making a trade to BUF impossible money wise.

From Buf perspective, getting to the floor could easily be done with Dahlin, Mittlestadt, and Jokiharu extensions plus one dump from somewhere. If they bet on Dahlin long term, he would eat most of that tbh. Calgary can worry about their own situation, not the Sabres problem. If a dump needs to be added, like Lucic (even with his NMC, could just be flipped in a paper transaction to someone else with Buf holding 50%)

Edit: see someone else had the same idea.

Once again, why is Lucic or Monahan or someone of that sort gonna waive their NMC for a promise to be flipped somewhere else, that could wind up being a Columbus or Anaheim or somewhere else they don't want to go just to help those 2 teams make a trade, and not be guaranteed of their NMC going forward.

And adding the 3M or whatever of that retention still doesn't make up the 10M that BUF needs minimum to reach the floor. Once again, Middlestadt Dahlin and Jokiharju are coming off entry level contracts. They most likely make 8M combined next year, not close to 20.

Also, Buffalo has reportedly asked for that supposed cost just for Eichel, what else do they want to take on a Lucic type contract? Another 1st round type pick?

Duran, how goes everything man? Hope Life is treating you well

Yeah, I agree with you, I hope Monohan proves us all wrong and has an awesome season. Sutter is an interesting coach, lets see who he does under him. It might not be a bad thing for Monohan.

Hey H4H. All good man. Hope you are enjoying your summer.

I find it interesting how fans are split on Monahan. I think he will be put into a position to succeed. If only to raise his trade value.

Because they want to play somewhere in their role? If they got to be a part of picking where they go could see it happening. Getting to the floor won’t be an issue. That will happen, it’s really a nonissue. If an Eichel deal with young players that KA covets is offered, and it’s just Min salaries, he’ll find away. Acquiring salary is never a problem.

I concur with Buffalo. Giving guys money is never an issue. Buffalo is like 5.1 million shy of the floor and that will probably all if not more go to Rasmus dahlin. Then they have to sign Casey Mittelstadt and Henri jokiharju which will probably be another 3 - 7 million. Jack going the other way won't be that big of a deal. Sabres might need three million come back. But I doubt that'll even be an issue because I think they'll take the Arizona approach. They will take someone that someone doesn't want along with a second round pick. Or take any goalie or right defenseman that gets cut in the next month off waivers. There are always a few Camp Cut surprises and buffalo gets first pick off waiver wire at least for the first guy I'm not sure how the overall rules kick in once they take someone.
