I dont feel like arguing about Risto today, Boss.
Besides, that's beyond my purview as Sabres blogger
Perhaps broads will come out and play though - Hank Balling
What did you expect to happen? Risto stepped up, you slanted him.....
Had to look up purview, wasn't sure if you were somehow separating yourself from us lowly posters.

Good post. There are some pretty big differences between Karlsson and Eichel. Karlsson was already in his late 20's and in need of a contract within a year. His play had already dipped and his body was already breaking down. There is every reason to think that Eichel is entering his prime. - Slump Buster
Yes, I think that is a valid difference. But, you cannot dismiss just how threatening Eichel's injury can be for an elite performer. If he loses just half a step in his skating or his ability to turn is even discounted marginally it can make a huge difference in his game.
A really good GM with a strong scouting staff can turn 4 or 5 assets into something really strong.
Life for Sens fans was miserable leading up to and through the Karlsson trade. It was the darkest part of the hockey pit of despair. Media talking heads jumped on the idea the Sens had got very little in return.
Today, any Sens fan would be horrified by a suggestion to reverse the deal.
I think Buffalo is handling a bad situation really well. Wait, be patient, one day this will look very different. We can talk Matt Duchenes and what he did for Colorado in forcing a trade. Even go back to Eric Lindros and how ultimately Peter Forsberg and others were able to turn the Nordues/Avalanche into perennial Cup contenders and winners.

Funny how the sammers just want to keep talking, like the trade proved them right the past 7 years.
He was traded in the division, for very little.
Same gm , that got a great return on risto.
Game, set and match
Let's move on homie.... take the L

Like to see Samuelsson Laaksonen playing big minutes as a pair in Rochester and then they could be your 3rd pair in 2yrs in Buffalo |

At this rate Seth Jones is going to get a better return than Jack Eichel.
I learnt in Econ 101 that when there is more demand than supply for a given asset that it leads to a higher price.
The market for d-men was much more prevalent than the market for forwards this year.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Yep,
The nhl is based on position, not actual player's talent like other sports.
Sam played 1C , the most important position in hockey and produced.
He's small, slow and not tough.
None of which can be "fixed"
That's why his return was mediocre at best.
At this rate, eichel is going to actually get a non ror return.
Why do you want to trade him so badly, while injured and pouting?
Our gm is being patient and almost everyone realizes that once eichel is healthy.
Seth jones is a good hockey player, but that doesnt matter....

1. They're unofficially separated at this point. The only way forward is signing the papers.
2. Yeah you could keep him. Let a franchise asset rot at his house, without a solution to his surgery. You kill his value, he resents the franchise and it makes the Sabres look bad for not taking care of their assets. And that comes in the form of either giving the player the surgery he wants or sending to a team that will.
3. There's much more private information that we simply don't know. We don't know who's willing to give up what, and who's willing to let him have his preferred surgery. Sounds like it's replacement or bust. The Sabres have to change their mind, or they have to come to a written agreement with another team that says we'll trade this package for him if he comes back healthy from that specific surgery. Brings you back to the gamble the Sabres don't want to take.
4. The complication of the money and players itself is already a challenge. You've already got a full roster without Jack. It probably needs to be a three way trade to shuffle vets or guys the Sabres don't want to grow with. - TheSabresTaco
They do?
Adding Mittelstadt brings the number of forwards to 14, and that does not include Eichel.
Take Hayden and MacInnis out (AHL) and you're down to 12.
Either of Eakin or Caggiula can be the 13th forward, and now you're at 11.
They have the space to add at least one forward via the Eichel trade, if not two.
Where are you seeing they have a full roster? |

"We have a lot of potential in the form of talent that’s in place to make big steps in a very short span,” Granato said last month. “I’ve had a lot of experience and been fortunate enough to be around extremely talented hockey players, the Auston Matthews and Matthew Tkachuks and the Charlie McAvoys and (Zach) Werenskis.."
Let the Calgary rumors resume. |

It would be a very bad idea to trade for Tkachuk unless there's already a plan in place to send him to the Blues. |

There were two top line forwards traded this offseason in Buchnevich and Reinhart and the Seth Jones trade got more then both of those returns combined.
The market for d-men, especially RHD, was red hot this offseason.
Duncan Keith’s corpse got a 3rd rounder. Risto gets a top 15 selection, Seth Jones gets traded and signed to a ludicrous contract extension.

Using CF:
sign the RFAs, you have 23. Swap MacInnis and R2. Include Eichel, you're at 24. They signed Hayden to be an extra forward here. Pretty confident in that.
So you're trading Eichel, who doesn't even count against the roster right now, and surely acquiring NHL bodies. Based on contract projections for the rest of them, you probably need 6M back. How many players is that? What if you get Krebs, who they would want to start in the NHL? Ok, you demote Eakin. Let's say you get Tuch, put him on IR, fine. Means you need you gotta suck up 2-3M more (Eakin demotion is -1.05M). I guess you can demote Hayden and go hunting for a trash contract for a pick.
All that is assuming a Vegas trade is indeed Krebs, Tuch and a non roster player/picks. It's a new ballgame if you're acquiring additional NHL players.
