Treliving's working hard, only Dubé & Mackey remain unsigned.

Combined $4M there, split it however you like. Leaves the Flames with $1.4 to spend.

Wouldn't say no too quickly depending on the cost, but feels a little bit like a Brett Ritchie? Dunno, haven't seen him play much, numbers aren't overwhelming.

Wild concept if we do trade Gaudreau and try to acquire Eichel at the same time...

To Buffalo - who needs to hit the cap floor:

50% Gaudreau cap hit
Lucic
Eller
Zary
Lapierre/McMichael
Valimaki
1st from Calgary

To Washington:
Gaudreau at 50% cap hit (basically trading Eller's hit for Gaudreau)

To Calgary:
Eichel
Leason

Washington gets Gaudreau to help with another Cup run and give up a blue chipper and a decent prospect to get him at a reduced hit, Buffalo gets 3 pretty solid prospects and a pick, Calgary gets Eichel and a bit of a prospect/project in Leason (who I wanted Tre to draft in the first place). Big bodied C/RW that Sutter would like to have I'm sure.

Am I nuts? Probably am. Didn't spend a ton of time thinking this one through

I do believe in the rumor that Treliving have inquired about Eichel. But I doubt that our ownership will give its approval to trade for a broken asset.

It’s pretty much a guarantee that he’ll be as good as new after his surgery. Maybe the Flames wouldn’t let him get his preferred surgery and that’s holding up the deal.

It’s gotten to the point where Buffalo needs to just let him get the surgery he wants and figure it out from there.

Not sure how you get to 4 million. Dube hasn’t done anything to get more than 1.5. Mackey has 6 career games. He’ll be happy to crack a million on a one way deal.

Depends on term obviously, but I could see Dube getting a Bennett-esque 2nd contract between $2-$2.5M pretty comfortably. Mackey's deal last year was $1.35 AAV (though cap hit was $1M), so I'm not sure how you think he'll get less, but cool.

Don't really care personally, but judging based on prior history, I think these are the likely deals for these two. I'm usually pretty close on the deals that Tre gets signed... maybe $500k total AAV margin for error on these two deals, but pretty comfortable with guessing they come in around $4M total.

His deal wasn't really 1.35 million. 425k of that was standard entry-level performance bonuses that he had zero chance of achieving. He also only earned around 200k last year. So a one-way contract around a million is a huge step up.

Bennett's second contract was only 1.95, which is still way too much for Dube. Dube's entire career so far is what Bennett did as a rookie.
