“I can give you really good internal reports on the training habits of all our players but in particular, , who I’ve been tracking pretty much regularly, and he’s been training on Long Island. , and I haven’t spoken with Nick yet, but from everything I’ve been able to discern I guess he’s had a phenomenal summer. I’ve been in touch with and I know he’s had a really proactive summer. So there’s a lot that I can say that’s really positive about our group right now and I’ve heard so many good things about all our players but those are the ones that I know a little bit more about right now,” McGuire said.

McGuire said he made the decision to jump back into hockey management when ESPN was awarded the American hockey rights beginning this coming season. While McGuire admitted other teams inquired, he knew Ottawa was where he belonged once they reached out.

The 1 problem is Eichel is under contract for awhile. I dont think the Sabres feel an urgency to move him unless the price is right, then come on down.

You would be surprised, I will be touching on it in my blog, I am working on it right now, it will be up in the morning. Make sure you check my twitter feed, or follow it as I will be posting another Sens interview time on tsn1200 tomorrow.

Eichel is basically a point a game guy with an attitude, and not a good one as far as I can see, who hasn't played a full season in the past five years.

He's got a pretty serious health issue with his neck and no one knows how that's going to play out and he makes 10 million a year.

Why does he not strike me as being a good investment? Why does he not strike me as a guy I want to trade away valuable assets for? Let me think....

How many friggin red flags do you need?

I would be surprised if they traded him for a handfull of 2nd. 3rd or fringe 1st liners.
But the Eichel mania will be back around trade deadline and next june.

OTT NEEDS to do something to prove to Brady they are willing to built a cup contender, that is the hold up on him signing a long term contract, if he is unsatisfied with managements efforts he will sign a 3-4 year deal and bolt in UFA. Is that getting Eichel or someone else of similar caliber? who knows, but they blew it IMO with not getting Reinhart unless he told the sens he would not sign any contract past his 1st day of UFA status with OTT.

OTT has a plethora of high quality prospects they can use to get a point per game player, does Dorion and melnyk have the courage to make that trade?

TOR mistake was not the signing Tavares, a 1-2 of Mathews and Tavares is comparable to Crosby, Malkin, their mistake was signing Marner to 11M/year instead of trading him for a true #1 Dman, or starting G+ secondary scoring. Yes Mathews and Tavares are overpaid by 1-2M each but Marner is overpaid by 3-4M alone.

I still think that Ottawa is making a big trade in the next 2 weeks and it will probably include L. Brown and Brannstrom. After listening to the McGuire interview I'm more convinced it's going to happen.

I agree.

But who is coming back. I don't think it will be Eichel. Scour the league and look for disgruntled top players who the shine has worn off with their respective clubs. And it may not be a huge play for a center. They've (the Sens) have been consistent with their talk about going with the rookie\freshman centers they have. I think the play is for a big D man. So.....who's out there?

How about Ottawa 1st.2nd.3rd pick 2022.2nd.3rd 2023. Colin white and logan brown.. they should be able to recoupe some picks anyways.
I usually dont play the fantasy trade or draft game but will throw my hat in.

Lots of Ottawa connection going back to Chychrun & Brown fathers playing all their minor hockey in Nepean, boys knowing each other, Tourigny replacing Jeff Brown plus living in community for many years etc.

Interesting. My guess is Brady gets same or a little more in his deal. Numbers are very similar and Brady brings a bit of value added in his physical play and leadership.

Dvorak appears to be a solid fit and the right fit for the Sens.

Not sure about Kessel. He had a great season with Pittsburgh just two years ago and could be a diamond to be offered up at trade deadline. Word is that Pittsburgh did not want to let him go but were caught in the cap squeeze.

Not sure how the family connections fit into how the deal would be formulated.

But, it would be a good situation for L. Brown to try and establish his NHL game.

See, this is what concerns me about people's impression of Tkachuk... the numbers aren't really that similar. Svechnikov already has 2 seasons where he was on pace for 60pts+ and 70pts+, plus he has 20pts in 26 playoff games. Tkachuk has flatlined production over the past 3 years at a 25G/25A pace, and hasn't played a single meaningful NHL game in his life. Intangibles aside, his actual production is substantially less than a guy like Boeser, who got a $5.9M x3yrs bridge deal after back-to-back seasons with a 30G/65Pts scoring pace. And that was in the midst of the best RFA winger class in recent history, with a pre-pandemic escalating cap.

Remember the TB model... use 3yr RFA bridge deals, invest the extra $$$ to prove you're serious about contending with a couple major acquisitions, then re-sign the player on a long-term extension once you have a sense of his actual relative value, and know if they're actually the foundational player you hope they'll become.
