Strange because I thought both Bryson and samuelsson looked very good last season. (,good as rookies)
Samuelson could be that stay at home defenseman we're looking for. I have very high Hope's for him.
I'd like to see both guys in Rochester thru the trade deadline if possible.
Maybe miller, butcher or prysk get moved ...... - Boss34
As they were both rookies kinda shoved into the NHL, I'm not going to take too much stock into their limited performances. But both of them pretty much came as advertised. NHL wasn't too big for either. Samuelsson was positive impact defensively (barely) and Bryson was high event man. Offense was the name of the game when he was on the ice, whether it was for or against Buffalo.

Risto dragged down the performance of everyone he played with for 8 years rookie or non-rookie.
They could have stashed him at the concession stand and that male/female would have sold less popcorn, peanuts, and beers than all of the others.
He requested trades year after year and put up terrible results year after year yet its “Reinhart is soft/inconsistent”, “Eichel isn’t good enough”, “ROR isn’t good enough”, “McCabe rides his coattails”.
Funny thing is Risto’s analytics get blamed on being on a bad team, yet Reinhart, Eichel, McCabe all have very good analytics. Do explain ?
In the year ROR lost his love for the game he posted a 98% WAR which pretty much shows the player that went to a good team the year after and won all of those personal awards.
The Sabres sucked because of playing really bad defenceman 25 minutes a night along with having shoddy goaltending until this past season.
Stop putting the cart before the horse. Every good player the Sabres have had good analytics despite the Sabres as a team sucking a$$ - Pegullaville
Pegsville - who's at fault for playing risto too much?
All 4 coaches..... odd for them to make the same mistake
Or the Sabres gm's for not drafting a suitable replacement for his minutes
Dahlin needs some blame for not taking over the minutes until the latter part of his 3rd season.
Risto showed up to work, rarely missed a game despite his style of play. Always a top nhl hitter.
His statistics also reflex his playing agaisnt top nhl talent year in year out. Definitely some intangibles to your post, your overlooking..... |

Patrick went from being a higher scoring defenseman early in his career to being they wily vet that knew the angles and when he needed to drop back because his speed had long left him.
That and he still had a hell of a breakout pass. - dadeadhead

No one's blaming Risto for the misery of this franchise. He's a bad player when he's not used on the power play, and the argument here is less "It's Risto's fault the Sabres have been in the poopter for 10 years" and more "he's simply a bad player and the personification of this decade of hockey.

Its not that odd really
They haven’t had good defensemen, period. McCabe was solid, who else?
Risto was physically the best player there, so every coach though they could fix it or get the best out of him
It never works.
Philly has Ryan Ellis (excellent) Ivan Provorov (over rated but decent) and Travis Sanheim (one of the most under rated D men in hockey)
This is a litmus test. I’ll be surprised if he’s top 2-3 in minutes there |

Spach and Lydman had good seasons too. But I would say we didn't have anyone like prime Vlasic since McKee.
Ehrhoff was good too, even here. Not a McKee type obviously. - TheSabresTaco

Him punching the table and freaking out after a caller called the two of them a couple of f****t’s because they were both wearing pink suits was still the best.
Followed by the time a caller on air called Zhitnik a pvssy and he lost it ranting how this is why we can’t do live TV. - dadeadhead

Eichel, Reinhart, ROR never played against top competition ?
McCabe never played against top competition?
You’re right on our coaching and management teams being a disaster and wasting Eichel’s career.
Watch Sam go to Florida now and put up 70 points.
Watch Eichel go wherever he’s dealt too and get the recognition he deserves.
Crap even Evander Kane had a really good year last year despite playing on a crappy Sharks team.
Risto was a huge part of the stink with the organization.
I’m just saying if Risto’s analytics sucked because of the team he played on. What was Jack, Sam’s, ROR’s, and McCabe’s excuse for having very good underlying numbers ?
Crap even Taylor Hall had good underlying he just couldn’t finish to save his life. |

Meanwhile, Krueger walks into the pregame locker room to deliver his gameplan:
"Oh yeah. Lotta pressure. You gotta rise above it. You gotta harness in the good energy, block out the bad. Harness. Energy. Block. Bad. Feel the flow Happy. Feel it. It's circular. It's like a carousel. You pay the quarter, you get on the horse, it goes up and down, and AROUND. It's circular. Circle, with the music, the flow. All good things." |

McCabe was not a number one D on the Sabres until recently he was in the 2nd line of D and wasn't playing 25 minutes a night. A couple of years ago McCacbe was a whipping boy on here and wanted to be run out of town too. The coaches liked Risto playing against the top talent - all the coaches. The Sabres's downfall for the last decade does not fall on one talented Finnish defenseman who we should all thank for getting the Sabres the 13th, a 2nd and a player in the trade. I'm not sure if such a bad player, in your eyes and many others has ever retrieved so much in a trade. Either you are right and KA is a gifted trader or Risto has more value than you think. |

Your opinion, which I respect ...
Risto is a bad player
My opinion as well as the Philadelphia flyers opinion is,
He's a good player worth a 13thOA, a 2nd and an nhl player. Other teams were offering 1st + for risto.
You like sam
I do not like sam
Sam playing a different position, did not receive anywhere near the same compensation.
He finally showed the ability to play 1C and rw.
In the division
The league has spoken as to the players value.
What gives?
At what point do you admit you under valued risto?
Obviously at no point will you admit you overvalued sam.
Same gm same week both players were traded.
Kinda seems like you are wrong .... IMO

Again, very reasonable assessment.
Thing is, nobody showed #1 defenseman skill. Aside from risto. He just kept playing hard minutes, every shift.
He's gonna get top 3 minutes, as a 2nd pair defenseman.
Probably pp1 and pk2
That's still not a 3rd pairing D. , as some have suggested.
I'm sure you were shocked at the return from phili.
If you surround risto with some solid stay at home defenseman, he's gonna be a great addition to their already sound defensive core. He adds the grit, these other guys lack.
We both like dahlin, but he's gonna get eaten alive by ovi, kuch, Marchant....
Risto's guys......

If they trade Risto for Ehlers and keep ROR are Eichel and Reinhart still Buffalo Sabres today and in the future ?
Is Isak Rosen worth more than all of that ? |

Imagine how much fun this place would be if the Sabres were entering the season like the Buffalo Bill's hype.
Both teams had the same amount of wins last season
15 wins sabres played 56 games
Bill's 19 games

Pegsville- I would like a little wager on under 70 points for Samson in Florida this season.
They may use him as 2C
Safe to say sam gets 24 goals 36 assists.
I realize sam's underlying numbers point to him being somewhat equally with or without Jack, but my 👀, see it much different. Seems like a lot of bonus points, pass the puck to eichel and have him do it himself.....
I'd like some action on goaloffson too.
Bet he puts up 25/55 points with a team that's trying to lose, without their #1 center.
Olo +10 points over samson 🤔

The "gifted trader" moniker lasted until sam recieved very little in return.
Somehow these guys blame the same gm , the same week for the return value on both risto and sam.
There's definitely the" position " which adds value, but sam just showed he can be a center and rw. That should count for something.
I couldn't agree more with you.... keep em coming.... |
