Was reading Fletcher's comments . Some interesting things and moves by the Flyers.
They will carry a 20 - 22 man roster because of the flat cap. He says this is the new norm and it is very hard to move out salary under the flat cap.
They won't talk to Giroux about extension until the end of the year . They have about 20 mil in space next year with 11 players signed and need to sign some UFAs like Ristolainen Braun Yandle and RFAs like Frost and Farabee. Will be hard to find cap room for CG next year.
Similar situation for Canucks with Petey / Hughes and Couterier / Sanheim . I would be happy to see similar contracts for both our players.

Interesting...AHL team in Abby will certainly help keep NHL squad light over the next two years while they sort out RFA contracts.

Most teams are feeling this squeeze. Probably part of the reason for Abby Canucks. Also why Rathbonr is in tough to make the team. No waivers and 175k higher cap hit than OJ.

I am not sure any of it is related. It has been a question for years about getting the farm team closer . Should not take a team a day and a half for a player to arrive.
Canucks have over 16 mil in space so I really don't understand at all about a so called crunch. These are two players that are both very good but should be easy to fit in for their second contracts.
Rathbone still needs grooming don't rush him but has nothing to do with money.
I did until this offseason. Trading Ned and signing DeAngelo are both (frank) ups IMO - NorthNuck
Needledyck was behind one of the best teams in the league, i think his year in detroit will not go quite as will. Andersen is better imo, but time will tell.
The team in white has some nice speed and skill, to go along with good discipline especially when line changing.
Green and the Canucks could learn a few things.

Flyers fans seem pretty happy with the Couturier contract.

I just don’t understand NHL general managers, I guess they just don’t really care about the long term effects of giving a 29 year old player an eight year contract, 29 when the contract kicks in, because most of them won’t be around to deal with the effects of it.
